    Re: Physics question

    I meant 3GHz of course not 5.
I see, it only have the first release BIOS, some memort compatibility fixes were made to many boards feb 2010.
wibujo had better luck with the same board and G.Skill F3-12800CL7Q-8GBECO.

Did you try higher MCH Core, 1.26-1.28v?

No I never went that high..Do you think I would need some other changes as well? What if I started with 4gbs or 2 maybe and try to get it stable at 3.2.then add the other 2/4 gbs ? Would that make it easier?

                Re: Physics question

You said you having trouble recovering from bad settings, do you also clear the CMOS when settings fail and thr system cought in boot loop?

                Here is what I do:
                Turn the PSU off
                Wait a few seconds
Discharge capacitors by pressing the power button once
Turn PSU on and power up
Wait 3-5 loops before I try again

If the procedure didn't work twice, I turn the PSU off, discharge capacitors and clear CMOS.

For conviniant, my reset button is hooked to the CLR_CMOS pins so i don't need to open the case. This means it must never be pressed while the PC is running and the PSU is on.

It may be easier to OC with 2 memory sticks but more MCH Core may be needed anyway.
This vary with each system, there are users that just install 16GB and it work without any tweak, others need 1.24-1.2vv MCH Core for 4GB at stock FSB.

My system needs 1.16v at 333MHz FSB for the 4GB, and 1.18v isenough for 450MHz.

                  Re: Physics question

You are using System Memory Multiplier = 3.33D with CPU Host Frequency = 354MHz.
You should not use the D-memory strap when cpu host frequency is lower than 400MHz.
Using the 3.20B memory multiplier should help with stability and overclocking.
Many find that stability is easier to come by when using the D-memory strap with cpu host frequency higher than 400MHz.

                    Re: Physics question

Actually I would expect 4.00B to work easy, and up to 375MHz FSB.
Apparently it's not so easy, maybe with a little more MCH Core.

                      Re: Physics question

                      With 8GB of memory, tRFC = 80 - 84 might be needed.
I suggest testing and tweaking with 2 x 2GB for now and getting your system stable.

Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...requested.html, where JoeR was trying to use 8GB of Crucial 1333 memory. Keep in mind that one of his 2 x 2GB kits was defective. You'll see that he was using higher MCH voltages (as Chike has suggested here), even when only running with 4GB of memory.

                        Re: Physics question

Thanks for all your replies...the thing is that my system IS stable with these settings. Why I don't know but it is. It passed all the test from P95 to IBT,Mem test...and takes about 45 seconds to boot up to the desk top, no bSOD's.I have tried the strap change only to have major boot issues and failures in prime that why its at 3.33D.It the only thing that worked. But I have not tried stabilizing it with 2x4 gbs first or trfc-80/84 or any thing higher than MCH of 1.22. SO were should I start first? Take out 2x4 bgs then bring it up straight to 400fsb? Or go in small increments...change everything at once? Here I go again. Just to let you know it took me over 2months to get were I am now and you guys have help tremendously with all your expertise to get me here so I am ready for another lesson!! Goal = 3.0ghz

                          For 3GHz a 375MHz FSB. With only 2 sticks in slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 4, MCH Core 1.24v.
Maybe it's one of the sticks that olds you bacj so if one pair fails try the other pair.
Set CPU ratio to 8, just to make sure this is not part of the problem.
