hi all.maybe you could help me with the temp problem i have.i did a test with prime95 and i saw cpu temp (Real Temp 3.69.1)raising in few seconds to 86+ C and after that i stoped the test to prevent any damage.idle temps are at 55-60 C.i've checked the coller and i have put thermal compound.

    i am using those parts:
    CPU: Intel Core i7 920 D0
    BIOS: F10
    Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 v1.0
    RAM: 6G (3x 2GB) ocz3p2000lv2g DDR3 CL 9-9-9-30 1.65V
    GPU:ATI 5850

the only things i've changed are System Memory Multiplier X12 to get 1600 mhz , the ram timings , CPU Vcore to normal and DRAM Voltage to 1.54v
    all others are optimized defaults.

any ideas why are those temps to high?and maybe some changes to improove system performance(without oc the cpu)

    btw the system is stable.

Is the CPU fan working, and at expected speed?
Check that the heatsink is seated properley. If it does, take it off clean and reapply thermal paste.
Make sure there is enough air flow in the case. You can take the side panel off and place a room fan over it, if temps are ok then the problem is with case coolong.

I have already checked that.without the side panel and full a/c in the room it drops 5 degrees but still going at high levels when prime95 is running.the cpu fan working fine.when temp is 60+is going at very high speeds.i can hear it.the heatsink is seated properly.thermal paste is there too. heatsink stock. maybe i need to buy other heatsink.

        Re: high temperatures i7 920 - ex58 ud5

What heatsink are you using? If stock Intel it won't be very good,a good quality aftermarket cooler eith a backplate will improve temps alot,

You could try reducing CPU voltage to 1.20375v by setting dvid to -0.09000v,then test for stability, seems a lot of voltage for stock clocks

yea it's stock heatsink.i did what you've said and the results are 2 degrees lower.there was not an option for 1.20375v but something like that 1.206...v and i selected this settings.should i go even lower?with all settings at default without oc the ram the idle temps were around 50 c and with prime 95 at 100% load -> around 80 c .maybe the only i can do is buy a Prolimatech Megahalems.i just hope that i'll see natural temps after that.

Did you check temps before you changed the memory to 1600?
If change to old settings does it changes anything?

Did you set voltage through dvid? So voltage and speed reduces when CPU is idle? Keep CPU voltage on normal and set dvid to -0.093750v,then when CPU runs at 100% load it will only use 1.2v and use below 1v when idle

ok i'll try to do it now.sorry but i don't know what you mean through dviv... i just change that CPU Vcore ............................... [1.29375V] ->>NORMAL (from normal to 1.206...v where i can find that dviv? :)

i did the tests again. at idle cpu-z gives cpu volt 0,832 , core speed around 1600 mhz, multiplier x12 ,qpi link around 2.400mhz , cpu temp around 55
at 100% load with prime -> cpu volt 1.136 , core speed around 2.793 mhz, multiplier x21 ,qpi link around 2.400mhz , cpu temp around 85 after a minute,i didn't let it go more... shall i return the ram voltage and mhz at stock and start from there?

i did that yesterday and was 5 degrees down i think.but i am sure that this is still hot.

Have you ever checked the temps before?
What kind of thermal paste do you use, and what method do you use to apply it?
Are all cores at the same level?
Try use HWMonitor(CPUID) and see how CPU temperature compare to core temperatures.

i didn't.i did it now cause it's summer and is really hot here.the thermal paste is gigabyte.white paste.i've put on cpu and aply with a finger using a plastic thing to cover my finger.i am sure that it's not that the problem cause i did that some times.the level of cores now are 53 50 52 50. cpu temp is 50 c. i run prime95 for 10 seconds with everest and HWMonitor open to see temp..at 100% load the cores were 80 and going up and the cpu where at 69.this is weird..

CPU temp sould be lower than core temps, this is normal.
GIGABYTE has thermal paste? Never heard of it.
Would be a good idea to try a known good compound, AS5 or better. When applyin new compound clean both the CPU and the HS base. Use high-purity isopropyl alcohol or a cleaning kit and lint free cloth. If you can't get high-purity isopropyl alcohol, you can use any other high-purity alcohol.
If you are spreading the compound, it's only need to be a very thin layer, enough to "paint" the metal not more.
Depend on the ambiamt temperature, idle core temps should be ~30-40.
