GA - Z68x -UD7-B3 Sata drives incompatibilaty

Hi all,

I purchased this board for new pc build .I had 8 drives which I planned to install but when I tried to do this I only ended up with installing 5 drives. One of the 5 drives is a BD writer. Is there a issue with this? Also I lost 4TB of data . why is this?

What brand/model hdd? Were they in raid or not? Be sure to update to the latest bios first using qflash

Hi , I am using a OCZ revo x2 256GB as my primary drive . Its a little tricky to install but I had no problem installing this.
I have 6 x 2TB internal HDD . I wanted to install all of them inside. They are all from different vendors i.e. wd samsung,seagate. The main 2 that I did have a problem with was seagates 2TB and are sata 3. In the end I purchased zalman usb3.0 u3 docking staion which let you do raid 0.

In the future I would like to have a option to install to install them internally. I found it wasted bandwidth. I have loads of usb3.0's I guess so I can use them instead but having the drives insides means I would have a better cooling option for it. I also had a problem with the case I purchased the thermaltake level10 (normal not gt)but i resolved that by taking the top 2 hdd cables out of the slots and this stopped that issue.

btw the bios is on f6 right now and I did clear cmos once updated.

So 3drives are missing? For sata3 your better off sticking to intel ports,gigabyte/Marvell can cause issues esp in raid,might need to enable uefi in the BIOS too,whenever you flash a BIOS always load optimized defaults and re enter your BIOS settings

I havnt seen or used the uefi so can't comment,but regarding SATA ports in general and esp in raid all none Intel ports are flakey and that's across all platforms,for your sata2 drives use Intel and same for sata3

I think gigabyte are trying to cling onto their dual BIOS feature hence uefi is Windows based and I agree Asus atm have a beta BIOS however when it comes to overclocking and fine voltage adjustment then gigabyte take the lead,that's my own opinion,just stick with it as newer drivers/bios's will be released to fix things,its always the case with new platforms,it takes a while for the drivers ect to catch up

I think I am going to keep with it. Took me for ever to set up. I did a few windows install and leanered a little more everytime. The last install I did turned to be the best. I de-attached all the drives and left only the OCZ revo x2 inside. I then let the os updates and the drivers installed with all there updates too. After that I added one drive at a time.

I was very excited about this build as the last real build I did was a bout 4-5 years ago which was 'nooh watercooling thread'. That was a overkill of a watercooling PC and served mewell tbh. but now the cpu and gpu's are cooler so I used a corsair h70 for the cpu. The thermaltake 10 was not as good as I thought it be. It looks awesome dont get me wrong but its not very practical as I would have liked to be and making this build didnt help that. You need an extra portion of patiance when building something like this and this needed way more than that.

As far as the board goes am not getting BSOD's and I do every now and then here a POST beep so I guess its bugs that need to be ironed out. However I also have another 128gb SSD which I had no luck of installing. It would have been nice to see that inside the build. I think it doesnt work so I will find that out tomorrow if the ssd works when i take it back to scan.co.uk.

Any firmware updates for that ssd? Or can't you get it to show up in BIOS or Windows?

I think ssd was dead on arrival. In the bios one thing you cant tell is which port is intels and which is marvell , this buggered me up more.

It will tell you in the mb manual,there should be about 2 sata3 ports and 4 or more sata2

GSATA is the marvel, SATA refers to the chipset.
