          Eeverything on normal.
In M.I.T itself or do you get an overclock warning when you enter M.I.T?
Don't you want to run the memory at 1066? Some other optimizations may be applied as well.

            Re: GA-X48-DS5 overclocking advice

I've edited my previous post to show exactly where the red flashing message shows up, it's in M.I.T itself.

I do want to run the memory at 1066, I was hoping you would guide me through this step by step, 1st step being cpu at 3GHz & Vcore. Then maybe the graphics card as well.

            I was wondering why the ram was being run at 5-5-5-18 / 800MHz / 1.87V, when the ram specs stat 5-5-5-15 / 1066MHz / 2.2-2.3V.

Is my 500W PSU enough power?

Tried those settings and Memtest reports errors.

I've varied the DDR OverVoltage from +0.2 - +0.4, been too scared to go higher as the higher values are highlighted in red. Even +0.3 - +0.4 are highlighted in pink.

They are hilighted pink/red to keep users from making a mistake, but manufacturer specs are 2.2-2.3v (+0.4 - +0.5).
Have you tried upping MCH OverVoltage?

Tried FSB & MCH OverVoltage at +0.1

Should I go ahead and try DDR overvoltage at +0.5?

About that red flashing "System Voltage NOT Optimized" message, should I be concerned?

                        Re: GA-X48-DS5 overclocking advice

Try setting tRFC manually 72-84, then more MCH OverVoltage up to +0.2, then loosening timings 5-5-5-18, 5-6-5-18, and 5-6-6-18.
8GB of memory usually a bit difficult to set at 1066.

Hi sorry to bump this thread,

But im in the same boat, i actually manged to run beyond 1080mhz but later i get a system freeze with high pitch sound -_- I bought the same ram Kingston HyperX 1066mhz (2.3v on label), but it just won't run 100% stable in very cpu/ram bandwitdh demanding games/benchmarks.

                          my system:
                          cpu q9450
                          mobo: x48-ds5
                          gpu: MSI 570gtx TFIII OC/PE
                          snd: XFI fatlity pro (SB046a)
                          psu: Tagan piperock 600w (4x20a, total 48a)

I'll copy paste my findings from another forum

Now i bought 4x 2gb Kingston HyperX 1066mhz and i can run at 1080mhz or 450mhz fsb, mch +0.325, fsb +0.200v, cpuv 1.36250v, gtlr1,2 normal.. 5-5-5-15, extra advanced ram timings 5-6-10-74-6-perf.level 7-auto-2t. Anything lower can make a system freeze with high pitch sound lol

(these are mobo default extra timings at 445mhz+ 5-5-9-70-5-pl7-auto-2t, even at 455mhz)

I can pass windows7 mem diagnostic tool up to ~ 1092mhz (455mhz) at those manual adv timings (including perf. level 7)..

Ingame benchmarks like Metro2033 (high mode, dof off, physx on) raises cpu cores ~75-98% (avg 90%) and when i see the most cpu usage (i monitor via g15 display) it can freeze with this high pitch sound - almost every time at 3rd repeat (or sometimes on 1st round) by most intense cpu/pcix/memory intense part.

                          ---
The next game is Resident evil 5 dx10 (all max, 4xaa), 2nd fixed benchmark. Also cpu/mem bandwidth intense and same symptom as Metro2033, anything beyond 1080mhz or lower adv timings like 5-5-10-70-5-pl7-auto-2t causes sound pitch freeze.

At the most cpu/ram bandwidth intense benchmark parts (raising cpuv didnt help)

Now my question is, should i change those GTLR1,2, will it smooth things out? Because I can see it in MEtro2033 benchmark its quite jittery, while at lower fsb 447mhz its much smoother.

i use both GTLR1,2 at normal up to ~ 455mhz and always ended up with this high pitch sound. Even at mch +0.350v and cpu way higher then i use to with 4gb, but i didnt raise adv timings so much, yet.. (memory enhance : Turbo; LLC -Off in all cases)

                          -------
EDIT: Well this didnt turn out so good.. I somehow passed both Metro2033 and RE5, but when i tested LostPlanet2 dx11 (no aa, rest max) it caused the same symptom - high pitch sound, usually towards the end of the bench..

Now im back to my 1000% stable OC 440mhz fsb,
                          mem enhance:turbo 5-5-5-15; 5-5-10-70-5-pl7-auto-2t clock
                          skew; driving: 800mv
                          cpu -normal
mch - normal (i tired 50ps but it didnt help much, anything higher had a negative fps impact)
                          ram: 2.2v
                          mch +0.300 (8gb), had at +0.250v with 4gb fsb +0.10v
                          GTLR1,2- both normal LLC-off
                          cpuv: 1.3250v

and this finally passed LP2.. at 450mhz or 447 or 445 mhz is a no go, idk do i need that much mch voltage or ram voltage (its a 2.3v) or even cpu v and higher latency?

                          ----

and today it happened again in Dirt3 after ~ 45min or so..
Is MCH overheating or what's making this high pitch sound? should i raise my memory latency further?

when i pressed reset and 10sec later in bios it showed system temp ~ 38C, cpu 41C..

Ok i think i found something, i checked through a few forums and now i raised 2 particular memory latency settings and so far so good. :)

                            I've set it like so

                            fsb 445mhz (3.560ghz, ram 1068mhz)
                            PCIx: 101mhz
                            mem. enhance:turbo
                            5-5-5-18

                            adv timings:
                            tRRD: 5 >> or 6 for stability.
                            tWTR: 5
                            tWR: 10
act to act refresh tRFC: 78
tRTP: 5 >> or 6 for stability. 5 is ok for me
                            Per.Level:7
                            Phase adjust - auto
                            cmd. rate: 2t

                            skew, driving
                            800mv
                            cpu skew-normal
                            mch skew- normal

                            ram:2.15v >> or 2.20v, im fine with 2.15v
                            pcix: +0.10v
                            mch: +0.250v
                            fsb: +0.15v
                            GTLR1,2-normal
                            llc-off
                            cpuv: 1.3500v

And now it passed all 3 tests; Metro2033 (5rounds), Re5, LP2 dx11 (3rounds) -1round i monitored the whole situation and my max system temp was 39-40C, so i guess MCH isn't overheating much.. Anyway, i also played COD4 MP (125fps cap) and it didnt freeze after 60-70min or so, before it froze after 15-20min..

I guess im safe now, i'll report back if it gets unstable..

EDIT: its still fine, i even lowered my ram voltage to 2.15v, ACT to ACT delay tRFC 78 seems to fix it, at 76 it was stable in LP2 dx11 - no more sound high pitch freeze, but later where it usually freezes, it crashed to desktop with driver nvwgf2um.dll error, tRFC: 78 fixed it. :) :)

Im using some newer F8H bios, that F7 caused some error (mem. corruption form previous session) in event viewer (win7 x64), it happens only after resume from sleep..

You might want to contact Gigaybte so they give you this new bios,
                            *make a passport here

*then login with that passport here

                            and make a question/ticket

i found mine at some German Gigabyte forum and later contacted GB, they said i should not use it until they verify it. I send them the original then they checked it and send it back approved :)

And i managed 450mhz stable too ^^ heh its all in advanced memory timings like Chike mentioned in this post.
                              Re: GA-X48-DS5 overclocking advice

Try setting tRFC manually 72-84, then more MCH OverVoltage up to +0.2, then loosening timings 5-5-5-18, 5-6-5-18, and 5-6-6-18.

this what i have now for 450mhz

                              5-5-5-18

act to act refresh tRFC: 82 >>> had to raise to 84 in the end (or 86 for stability!!)

                              GTLR1,2 -both at normal

I leave all advanced timings auto.
At 450MHz FSB my VTT(FSB equiv) is only +0.02, and MCH +0.07, references are tweaked though 0.72 @ 1.2VTT MCH ref, and 0.744 @ 1.2 VTT CPU ref, and clock CPU skew 150.
Yhat's with P45, X48 may need different settings
