  • Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3 + i5 2500k Sandy Bridge Overclocking -Help

    Hey guys,
(first i wanna let you know im german so my english may isn't the best in some cases, please excuse this)
i wanted to overclock my i5 to a minimum of 4ghz,
i just bought it to have a really rocket-cpu which performs as good as possible in benchmarks and games... but as i started this morning, it just won't work well :(

    My Setup:
    Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3 - BIOS-Version: F2
    Intel i5 2500k
    Kingston Hyper-X DDR3-1333 CL7 4GB-Kit

So first, as pretty much every guide says it would work:
i just highered the ratio to a value of "40" and highered:
    the vcore to: 1.30v,
    QPI/Vtt: 1.105v,
System Agent (can someone explain me this value?): 1.00v

so, after about 20 minutes, Prime gave me a failure...
i thought: Well, lets deactivated EIST, C3/C6, C1e for testing reasons -> done it
-> but got a failure aswell... but after 1 and a half hour...

So now, i dont know what to do anymore... a CPU like the i5 2500k should easily manage 4ghz, what could be the problem?!

Do i may need a BIOS-Update, any Ideas or known Bugs?

    Please help me,
its pretty frustrating right now, because i have pretty much no idea of options which matter right now...

my last setup was an ASUS P5Q P45 and a E8400@ 4050mhz, pretty much evrything is different and i never had a gigabyte board before :(

    Update:
Highered the vcore a little bit to 1.32v in BIOS (even if i really want to avoid it),
deactivated USB 3.0 to eliminate possible bugs and fixed ram ratio.
now rebooting an taking photos of the bios, then testing with prime again.

How about stock settings, does it pass Prime95?

Leave System Agent at default for now.
    What is default vcore?

It ran well, but i didn't test it really long @ stock...
Ok i'll put it back on default.

Here are my BIOS Screens, to eliminate possible wrong options/values:
      Main-Menu M.I.T.

      M.I.T. Current Status

      Advanced Frequency Settings

      Advanced CPU Core Features

      Advanced Voltage Settings

      Advanced Frequency Settings

right now, im prime'n with the settings of the screenshots.

Did you set manual dram voltage? Either 1.5v or 1.66v,set cpu pll to enabled rather than auto, keep cpu v to 1.3v and try 1.108v qpi/vtt

kk, but what does the PLL exactly do? Evrything i read was pretty confusing...

It helps cpu keep up,kinda like a turbo boost, not 100% sure though, but another user had instability when it was on auto,as soon as he set it to enabled his crashes stopped so it might help you

CPU PLL Overvoltage shouldn't be needed until you try x45 CPU multiplier or above really, it allows higher CPU multi's to work is all, and at x40 your CPU should be able to do that easily.

Can you link us to your exact memory please, thanks!

4Ghz should be a breeze, and I'd expect you can probably do it on stock CPU voltages, maybe a minor adjustment but not much. You will need to set your memory voltage as mentioned above

What cooler are you using? I would advise updating the BIOS for sure, use Qflash to do the update.

Then once you are done with the update reboot and load optimized defaults then reboot once more to the BIOS and set your SATA/Disk settings and memory voltages. T

Then update the backup BIOS to match the MAIN BIOS, then you can work on your overclock

Im using PLL voltage of 1.5200, would having PLL over voltage enabled still work with this ?

PLL Overvoltage is really only needed if you are trying to push a high CPU multiplier and it fails to work, so then you enable and can push the multiplier further.

At the multi you are using, if you can boot that without CPU PLL Overvoltage enabled, then you don't need it enabled. It's a yes or no thing, if you can't boot for example x48 CPU multi without it, you need it enabled, if you can then you don't.

Yes, it will work enabled with a lower CPU PLL set, they are not related like that. You shouldn't need CPU PLL Overvoltage until maybe past x45 CPU multi, many CPU's I've seen and tested can do at least x45 before it needs to be enabled.
