    Hehe good one :D

Seriously though, I can't take the chance of my system not booting up again, the thought of all the components powering up at once so many times freaks me out... and I'm not sure I wanna set 1.45 Vcore in the BIOS, even though I was told it should be fine because CPU-Z will read 1.41-1.42.

It's so weird that the difference is merely 175 MHz and it needs so much more Vcore to power up...

Professional advice please: Stay at 3.8 or keep going up?

      Try for 3.910GHz (460 x 8.5), but....
      Leave memory at 2.10 volts
Test your current 3.8GHz settings for stability with MCH Core 2 - 3 clicks higher first.
Sometimes your system will reset to stock bios settings after 3 - 5 boot loops.
Don't worry about a few boot loops with all your components powering on & off.
It's possible that you'll be pleasantly surprised with the 2.00B memory strap.

I just noticed that you're using a Western Digital hard drive.
Are you aware that you can download and install a free version of Acronis True Image WD Edition Software to use for disk/partition imaging, cloning or backup?
I don't use the it's windows software to save partition images of my ssd, I prefer to use the bootable version from my optical drive.

You can download the software from WD Support -- Acronis True Image download and you need to have a WD drive connected to your system to install the software.

            Hello all,

Sorry for the 2 weeks break, I was in a little vacation :)

I have tried some numerous attempts at hitting 4GHz, all of which ended at bot failures and BSODs... I therefore decided that 3.8 GHz is enough and I think I'm going to keep the overclock as it is.

I am able to run all the latest games on high resolutions with very high in game settings thanks to my champion 6950(70).

Thanks for all your help, and I'll make sure to come back and visit :)

OK, don't go away mad, just go away.

3.8GHz is a very good overclock. The increase to 4.0GHz is nice for bragging rights, but the difference in system performance would barely be noticeable. At lower speeds, a 200MHz increase is noticeable.

Now we'll have to wait and see how long it takes for your need for speed to force you into setting up a crossfire 6950/70 monster.

              Glad to help out.
              Enjoy your system.

Posting your final bios template will help others.

You don't have to be fixed on 4GHz.
I cannot get 4GHz stable, but 3.95 seems more promissing. I may need to settle for a bit less but it will be over 3.9GHz I am sure.

Ahh been out of the gigabyte forum for awhile .

I used to run my Q8400 at 4.ghz ,I have it detuned now as i changed out its psu for my new pc and running with fewer fans.
gskill p1 should be good for 990-1000 pl 9 with tweaking.

Memory on a 1:1 basis ie a 2:00 multiplier allways worked the best for me,which means either underclocking your 1066,using 1000 or overclocking your 800mhz sticks.

Yeah the system seems fast enough for all my needs, i'm not mad at all, I think that the difference will be negligible and there is no point to push the system further.

Regarding a CFX setup... I don't see it happening with my current case, one 6950 barely fits in, let alone 2... unless I mod the case and remove the lower panel inside the case, it can't be done...

I will post my final BIOS settings later

                    :)
