Problem with my Gigabyte Geforce 240GT!

    Problem with my Gigabyte Geforce 240GT!

    Hi everybody!

    I am new for this forum and I really need your help!

    I've recently bought a new PC with the following specifications:

    MB: Intel Extreme DX58SO
    CPU: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz
    RAM: 2GB DDR3
    GC: Gigabyte Geforce 1GB DDR3 240GT (Model: GV-N240D3-1GI)
    HDD: WD 1TB
    OS: Windows 7 32bit

    The problem is that whenever i play a videogame I encounter this annoying message during the game:

    It's been a long time trying to solve this problem but to no avail! :(

    Any ideas??

    Quite old driver, have you tried the latest from NVIDIA site?
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL

    There is even a newer one in the programs sticky if you wish to try.

      I updated the driver, lowered the resolution, I've even formatted my PC and reinstalled windows.. but still the same problem! :(

      Does the BIOS have anything to do with that? I heard that updating the BIOS fixes compatibility issues!

        Yes, they sometimes do, that's what updates are for, but I know nothing about updating inte'sl boards BIOS.
        Graphic card BIOS as well.
        Consult Intel and GB sites for the fixes.

          The only time I've seen the "stopped responding" message" on my system is when I've overclocked my video card too high.
          One possibility is your motherboard bios settings that relate to video card "enhanced" performance.
          I'm not familiar with the bios setting options for an Intel brand motherboard.

            Have you looked on gigabytes website for any bios updates for your graphic card?

              Problem is solved!

              It had nothing to do with motherboard BIOS, nothing to do with graphic card BIOS, but to do with POWER!

              I -by chance- noticed that my Intel motherboard had an unplugged power connector, I looked it up in the motherboard's layout and figured out that it's an auxiliary PCI Express graphics power connector. So, I just plugged it in and everything worked just fine!

                Nice to see you got this sorted out!

                Does the manual say this is optional? It usually it, and is only needed with high power overclocks or multiple cards, so it seems odd it would cause an issue with a single card at stock (Could just be how the board is though?)

                  Hi there!

                  The manual actually says something like that: "If high power (75 W or greater) add-in cards are installed in either or both the Secondary PCI Express x16 and the PCI Express x4 bus add-in card connectors, the Auxiliary PCI Express graphics power connector must be used."

                  I don't really know how much power my card consumes. However, knowing that I live in the hot part of my country, I think plugging in that connector increased card's fan rpm which helped lowering card's temp.

                    Cool, well at least they do mention it as a must in certain instances and not optional.
