  • RAM upgrade

    Hi There

I've made this PC 1.8 years ago with ur help
Now I'm back for upgrade suggestions

    My Config:
    Q8200 @ 2.8 Ghz, GA-EP45C-DS3R, Palit HD4850, WD 1TB Black, 2x2GB 5-5-5-15 800(1:1) Mhz Kingston, Vx2235wm-5 (2ms, C.R 1000(typ), DVI),Creative 5.1, Corsair Vx450W

In at my place (delhi/India) rates are as:-

    RAM
    DDR3 CORSAIR 4GB(1333): Rs. 2000
    DDR2-2GB simmtronics: Rs.1262

Now Since I already have DDR2 4GB & want to upgrade to 8GB
    Shall I go for DDR2 or 3?
    and what speed?

    HDD:
additional 1TB WD green (Rs. 2500) or Blue (???) just want to increase capacity.

    Grafix

Though not actively considering it will Finding & buying another Palit HD4850 will be better or replacing with better card, considering adding another Gx Card will tax PSU?

    Regards
    Q8200 @ 2.8 Ghz, GA-EP45C-DS3R, Palit HD4850, WD 1TB Black, 2x2GB 5-5-5-15 800(1:1) Mhz Kingston, Vx2235wm-5 (2ms, C.R 1000(typ), DVI), Altac Lansing AS2351 5.1, Corsair Vx450W - Prateek Chanda

    Re: RAM upgrade

Just checked the memory support list for my board
and for some reason it did not have 4GB memory module for DDR3 ?
but on description page its given that I can go upto 8GB in DDR3.

So is it that My selection is already made and have to go with ddr2?

Will the above mentioned simmtronics memory will work good with already installed kingston?

      Re: RAM upgrade

4GB module may or may not work, they were made after this board so that is why they are not on the list.

DDR2 would be your best bet for P45, especially since you want to use 8GB.

Yes, another 4850 would probably be too much for your PSU, but you could upgrade to 5770/5850 probably and still be ok with that PSU.

        Thanks lsdmeasap

one more thing will 5770/5850 be better than 2X4850?

          Re: RAM upgrade

I am not sure, but I don't think either of those would be 4850x2, 5870 would but I'm not sure about the others.

Actually, I think all of that is covered in this thread
crossfire 4850's vs. single 5850 - Hardware Canucks

5770 or 5850 should be your next graphic upgrade instead of buying another 4850. 5770 isn't a huge leap in performance, but you do get cooler temps and DX11, 5850 would be a much larger jump in performance

          And 4850 vs 5770 here
Hmm? Wanna upgrade my GPU? whats better to go for guys? the 5770 or 4850, my concern is the 128bit on the 5770 vs the 256bit on the 4850, round about the same price here.

            Ya I see your point.

One more query do I get an update to Dolby Home theater V3 for my existing board? Right now I've Dolby home theater only
I can't seem to find it anywhere on net.

              Re: RAM upgrade

I think you have to buy Dolby programs, there should be the basic version on your CD or motherboard download page, but anything more than that I think you must buy.

Not sure though, never looked into or used that?

                    Re: RAM upgrade

So you got this all sorted out then? If so great to hear, sorry about the late reply!

I have onboard sound disabled right now, so I can't listen to the above link, I'll have to do that next time I reboot. Is that link to show me about your issue and so I can test it, or was you just wanting me to watch it for information?

As for Dolby updates, I am pretty sure the only ones Gigabyte provides will be on your Motherboard Install CD or the driver download page for your board.

You can ask here though if you would like further info about possible future updates.

                      Thanks for replying!
Ya the link is for information of some thing new from Dolby (at least new to me)
& I was wondering is it possible to get it
But I'll recommend u watch it!
                      B bye

                        Re: RAM upgrade

OK, I'll watch it once I reboot and enable sound!

If it's just from Dolby I'm sure you will have to buy it, or maybe if it's meant for motherboard makers then it might be included in future models but not now.
