  • GA-EX58-UD3R, i7 920 (2.67ghz) shows 1.59Ghz (133Mhz x 12)???!!!!

Hi folks my 1st post i'll be as clear as poss.

My current system shows my cpu at 1.59Ghz using Intel cpu id utility, CPU-Z, Realtemp, SIW & Easy Tune6.

I have tried EVERY adjustment in BIOS I can think of (including latest and older BIOS versions) and no matter what I do I cannot get the CPU to show 2.67Ghz (133mhz x 20) at which it is set to in BIOS.

FYI the CPU DOES show as 2.67Ghz in bootup when splash screen is disabled. I have even tried benchmarking with CPU at 100% using cinebench and prime95 but the CPU simply will not report the proper frequency.

I have contacted Gigabyte Tech Support and that has just turned into 20 questions with no answers, and as far as Intel are concerned they were pretty concise with saying the CPU would either work or not and this is more than likely related to the MOBO.

I hope someone here can help I am well fed up with this and really dont want to strip down the system to RMA the board unless it is the last resort.

its normal, its just the power saving mode that your seeing, the cpu will auto downclock when idle to save power,as soon as any stress is applied it will switch to full cpu speed,to disable it and run at full speed all the time go in advanced cpu features in the bios and disable c1e,then look in windows/Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options and choose high performance profile

it should display full cpu speeds in cpu-z when its stressed or on high performance above^^

    balanced profile/win7/c1e enabled in bios

high performance profile/win7/c1e disabled in bios

Hi and thanks for your reply. However if I was seeing those types of results I would be happy, unfortunately I have tried running the system with all power saving disabled and it will not clock a x20.

I have tried disabling C1E, Multi Threading, Virtualization etc etc etc and always shows cpu at 1.59Ghz. I have even reset CMOS and removed BIOS Battery but with no luck. BTW Just noticed your location, you're just up the road from me..... literally.

BTW I use my system mainly for video/sound editing so OC'ng not really of interest to me.

haha yh and snowed in,ok whats the turbo ratio? does it go to 21x or 20? sorry im still on older bios layout i dont like the newer layouts

in the bios load optimized defaults and then save/exit,pop back into the bios and set cpu multiplier to the highest, either 20x or 21x,leave everything else on auto for now, apart from usb keyboard/mouse ect, enable those if you need them

EDITT: try and set turbo ratio to 20x or 21x if it will let you

sweet your online guess there's always a +ve side to being snowed in no?

Anyways have just done the defaults settings and the system is still stuck at x12 multiplier.

here's what i get with all different utilities under load:

Also if you look at my bios pics the turbo ratio is at 12 and non turbo at 20, with freeq at 1.59Ghz turbo and 2.67Ghz non-turbo, surely thats not right is it?

^^^ see in that pic where it show turbo freq and non tubo freq,it seems to be stuck at 12x when turbo kicks in,try disabling intel turbo boost, and makesure all cores are enabled in the bios

EDIT: it should be like this (note 22x and 21x turbo/non turbo on a i7 930 chip)

makesure you set the cpu multipler same as this ^^^as 12x is the default

I have tried turbo and non turbo the result is the same. I think an RMA is in order tbh. All the settings are set up for the cpu to run at 2.67Ghz and memory at 1300mhz which is stock for my set up. No matter how much load is on th system it will not go over x12.

btw how do you get BIOS screenshots like that?

their from the virtual bios page found here, just to show you

its a weird problem, ive never seen that happen before, how long you had the cpu? it could be that or mb,and are you using 8pin cpu power plug from psu?

EDIT:another thing to try is take out the mb battery and leave it out overnight just to be sure its not a cmos problem

Everything is connected as it should be, I built the system back in april 2009 and didn't really bother with doing a bench test, until i installed siw recently and noticed the cpu reporting at 1.59Ghz. After that I have tried everything but nothing has helped.

I reckon the board is faulty and I will rma that first, if that doesnt fix it the cpu will be next.

yes i just wanted to make sure, tried the latest beta bios?? do you know what revision the mb is?

                        ud3r rev 1 http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList...a-ud3r_f7g.exe

                        ud3r rev 2 http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList...3r_2.x_fe1.exe

its worth a try, before you flash makesure it clears the dmi pool data, you will need to tick or untick the box(cant remember) so it clears it,then go ahead and flash

if that fails then yh i would rma the mb
