  • GA-EP45-UD3P Gigabyte SATA ports not enabling AHCI

I can't seem to get the Gigabyte (Purple) SATA ports on my GA-EP45-UD3P to enable AHCI. I have the ports enabled in the BIOS, and I have the mode selected as AHCI, but when I look up the mode of my SSD (OCZ Vertex 2) in windows under AS SSD, it says it is running under a "JRAID" mode. As a result, I can't connect to the SSD to update the firmware, and I'm guessing it won't run at full performance either. The other device I have connected to that set of connectors is my DVD burner. I've checked and there is definetly not a RAID configuration running on thise ports (though there is one on the Intel controller connectors). I'm running the F10 BIOS.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? If I connect to ports 4 or 5 on the Intel controller, would they have AHCI, since I have RAID turned on for ports 0-3? Or is my board buggy?

    Thanks!

so you have a raid array on the intel ports? can you add the ssd to the intel port but not include it in the raid? the jmicron purple ports wont be that good anyway

As mentioned above you have your SSD connected to the wrong ports, you need to connect it to an Intel port (yellow).

And if this is meant to be your OS drive, then I suggest you connect it to SATAII_0, the first yellow port against the PCB at the top.

All drives not in the RAID array will be ran in AHCI mode, actually RAID single disk Non-Member but that's the same as AHCI.

In regards to updating your SSD firmware, you'll need to check at their forums but most firmware updates I've done need to be done with the drive in IDE mode connected to the first Intel port.
