  • GA-P55A-UD3R intel SSD SMART command fail

    Hi,

So recently i plugged in my x25-m 160gb gen2 into the intel spec sata ports and it comes up with SMART Command fail when the AHCI drivers are being installed.

I am using F13 bios, AHCI mode, smart disabled in bios, i was told that this was fixed in F12 but when i had it installed it gave same error? did anyone else have this problem or just me? any solutions?

    thanks

Re: GA-P55A-UD3R intel SSD SMART command fail

is smart turned off in the bios? what port do you have the ssd plugged into? intel?
^^ ahh sorry just read in post, any firmware updates for your drive?

P.S are you installing the ahci drivers before the os from a usb ect? you could try installing windows in ide mode then once installed do the reg tweak to enable ahci, maybe it would work that way??

yea smart is off, port 3 intel, not sure about where teh ahci drivers are coming from but they're the ones which install during the post detection phase, right before windows starts.

i forgot win7 installs them for you, only xp you need to pre-install them,i dont know whether native sata port 0-3 has anything to do with it? if its enabled try disabled and vice versa

i think you need to disable onboard ide controller too if your using ahci

if its your os ssd then put in port0 as its the first device you want the bios to detect, any storage hdd's can be put in port2/3/4 ect,any sata dvd drives can be plugged into ports 4/5

i wonder if changing it would actually help with the smart error but i guess its worth a try.

try it,you can always change it back,i dont use smart so i cant say much about it,i do use ahci though and im sure disabling onboard ide would help,if not change it back,i need to look in my bios to see if i have it disabled

Update your storage controller driver in device manager, to this one
                            http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sear...ntel%C2%AE+RST)

Download the "Pre-Install" drivers, whichever fit your system 32-bit or 64-bit.

You should not get SMART errors at bootup with an Intel drive, unless something else is wrong, that issue has only been affecting Sandforce base drives.
