  • Goosed EP45-DS3P?

The diagnostic LED`s have been coming on for the SATA/IDE ports on my motherboard which is supposed to show a fault with one of my SATA devices.
I`ve tried unplugging them one by one and switch on the PC after every unplug but even after all SATA devices are unplugged the LED`s still show after POST. Does this point to my motherboard being faulty?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

With all sata devices unplugged, in the bios Standard CMOS Features screen, did you set all IDE Channel X Master[/Slave] entries to None and then see if the Sata diaganostic LED still lights up?

Does the diagnostic LED remain lit after your system has completed booting?
Do the remaining LEDs flash momentarily when you initially power on and then turn off?

      Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

Thanks for your reply Jim, I never thought of setting the bios settings to none so I`ll try that this evening.
The LED`s come on for about three seconds after post and then go off, no other diagnostic LED`s come on either, just the IDE/SATA ones.

Tried with the bios settings on the IDE/SATA set to none and the result is the same.

          Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

The Led light behavior might be normal.
I would expect that all lights would momentarily light up while posting and that any lights that remained on while booting or while running would signify an error.

Your best bet would be to contact GB support and ask for more info about how all the diagnostic lights should work, normally and when there is a problem. You could include a link to this thread to provide additional information.

If Lsdme still has his EP45-DS3P, he should be able to report how his system lights work.
Use the forum PM to send him a message and include a link to this thread.
Let us know what the final outcome is.
          Good luck.

              Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

So are they on after you are in windows as well or just during post? On during post indicates an issue, but if they function fine then it could be a faulty sensor or ghost LED.

Are you sure it's the LED you think? I ask because there should be separate ones for SATA and IDE

                Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

The LED`s come on just after the happy beep and go off before windows. There is one SATA and one IDE and both come on, BTW I don`t have any IDE components either.
The hard drive seems to be ok, I think there is a tool on the Samsung website that can check the disc for problems so i might give that a try.

                Thanks for your replies :-)

Ahh that sounds normal to me, many LED's may flash during POST.

                    Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

I did wonder but these are the only LED`s out of the seven diagnostic LED`s that light up and as I already have one bad memory slot I wondered if this was a sign the the board is on the way out.
Anyway, while everything is still working OK I`ll let sleeping dogs lie.

                      Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

Well in that case, you may want to see about a RMA on the board then.

It happens without any drives attached as well correct?

Thats correct, hard drive and DVD drive disconnected and SATA channels set to NONE in the bios and it still happens.

                          Re: Goosed EP45-DS3P?

Well for what it`s worth here`s my reply from Gigabyte GTS "Hi,

Does the motherboard boot up? Can you get a display on monitor?

Please try to reset the CMOS -
                          1) Disconnect the power cord from the power supply. Remove the CMOS battery (the flat silver disk) from the motherboard using a srew drive or similar implement. Leave it out for a minute or two, then replace it and power on the system. The BIOS settings should have been reset, allowing the computer to boot.
                          2) Go into the BIOS - “Load optimized default”
                          3) Save settings and exit.
                          4) If this doesn’t work then try "Load Failsafe default"

It doesn`t even attempt to answer my question about LED`s and it only took them about a week and a half to reply.
The next step is to check my hard drive with Samsungs own tool, I`ll let you know the out come.

Well I ran the Samsung Hutil tool and my hard drive checks out ok, no faults or errors so the problem must lie with the motherboard. As it`s two years old and out of warranty I think I`ll just leave it as it is, it may continue to work for a few years more or it might give up the ghost tomorrow.
I think I`ll cross the bridge when I come to it.
Thanks for the help guys :-)
