I've been having this problem since December 2009 and I've finally exhausted all my other options related to figuring it. I really need help on this one, because I'm stumped.
I bought a GA-MA785GMT-UD2H to put in an HTPC for my parents. They aren't very tech-savvy, so I wanted to keep everything nice and simple, so they wouldn't have to know too much about what is going on behind the scenes. They have a Home Server, which takes scheduled backups of all systems in the house, but the systems have to be either ON or asleep in order to do it. If they're asleep, they wake themselves long enough to take the backup and then go back to sleep. If enough backups are missed, the server nags them on ALL machines, listing which machines are missing backups, and they just leave those systems on until the message goes away. They hate wasting electricity so this makes them kind mad...
The problem is, on every BIOS I have tried, if the power configuration is set to Suspend Mode S3 (STR), and the system goes to sleep, it can't resume, no matter what. At first I thought it was just an HDMI handshaking problem but last night I installed a Gigabyte Radeon 5450 and it was no better.
I'm about ready to either send the board in for repairs or just buy something else.
Here are the specs, but this is from memory so it might not be as granular as I'd like:
Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H rev 1.0. BIOS updated to F9
AMD Athlon II 240 (Regor) 2.8 GHz @ Stock Everything, auto everything
G.Skill RipJaws 2x 2GB DDR3-1600 F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL @ a steep underclock, something like 1066 7-7-7-20
Antec 380w power supply, plenty for the scale of this project
Avertv MTVHDDUWB HD Duet PCIe 1x TV Tuner
Western Digital Caviar Blue WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM
ASUS 4x BD-ROM
LITE-ON 24x DVD Burner
Windows 7 Professional x64, fully updated
Connecting to a Harmon-Kardon AVR which has HDMI support, from 2007-2008, which then connects to a Sony LCDTV via HDMI. All support 1080p and HDMI CEC, and all that jazz. No problems with them with any other HDMI source I've tried, including DVD players, Bluray players, and laptops.
I can't provide a BIOS template but I can say that because it isn't a gaming system, and doesn't need to handle strict workloads, the BIOS is mostly default, other than the peripheral settings. I always disable any unnecessary stuff, and put all SATA controllers on AHCI mode. As for power control settings, it's completely default. In order to keep this error from being a HUGE problem for them (as they have no idea why "the HTPC won't turn on, but it won't turn off either!) I temporarily put it in S1 mode, which I don't like at all...
Help please! I hope I've provided enough information.
EDIT: I forgot to say, this problem does not depend on how the machine goes to sleep. I can let it go idle, I can manually tell it to sleep from the start menu, or I can tell it to sleep from within the Media Center applications, the result is the same: system can't wake up. If I tap the power button, all the fans spin, but no video, or audio, nothing ever comes back. If I then hold the power button, the system will go completely off, and if I press the power button, it will then power up and resume from hibernate, which is as slow as booting in the first place, so doesn't help at all. Having to do all this really frustrates my parents and they don't use the HTPC much because of it.
EDIT: Anyone? Any ideas at all? I'm striking out here.
