  • Memory for GA-EP43-DS3L

    Hi all,

I currently have the Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L motherboard and it comes with OCZ OCZ2T800C44GK 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC6400 Titanium Memory CL4(4-4-4-15) fitted.

I am now looking to increase it to 8GB but have found that the same make & model of memory's price has increased (doubled!) so I am trying to find a way to upgrade to 8GB without paying too much.

Can anyone recommend me the best way to do this? Would it be easier for me to buy DDR3 (assuming MB supports it?) or stay with DDR2 but find a bundle deals, or something else? If so, which one do you recommend?

    Thanks,

    Re: Memory for GA-EP43-DS3L

The cheapest will be to buy 2 more of the same memory, better make sure it will also work before you buy.
G.Skill memory configurator finds 3 8GB kits for the GA-EP43-DS3L. The cheapest will cost twice OCZ2T800C44GK.

The motherboard does not support DDR3 nor they will be cheaper either.

yeh unfortunately ddr2 performance memory price has gone in an upward curve as ddr3 has gone down.
I think its marketing as much as anything else.
What do you need 8gb for?
If its some application that needs that much physical ram you could probably get some cheap value ram of 700mhz or so,that will "dumb down" your present ram to that speed.
If u have no real need for 4gb more physical ram the cost of 2 new sticks of "performance " ram is pushing u towards " OMG the old stuff is so expensive!.. I need to upgrade bad "
You dont mention your system speed specs. If you dont overclock, you will get a lot more performance for "free" just with a mild overclock.
If you do. well not much you can do except pay up for the percieved extra ram need.
