  • How to set the BIOS to work with 8GB @ 1066MHz?

    Hi there.
    I have GA-EX38-DS4 MB and I use 8GB= 4 slots x 2GB sticks RAM of G.SKill
    ‎ F2-8500CL5D-4GBPI-B‎
    ‎ 5-5-5-15 ‎
    ‎ DDR2-1066 (PC2-8500) ‎
    ‎ 2.0 ~ 2.1 Volts ‎

    I use Intel E8500 3.16Ghz @ 3.80Ghz.

I want to set the RAM to work at 1066MHz and keep CPU at 3.80GHz.

What are the recommended settings for timings and voltages?

    Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 BIOS

You may not be able to easily get 8GB working at 1066

Can you give us a link to your memory

    CPU Clock Ratio : 9X
Fine CPU Clock Ratio : 0.5
    CPU Frequency : 3.80GHz(400X9.5)
CPU Host Clock Control : Enabled
    CPU Host Frequency : 400
    PCI EXP. Frequency : 100
    C.I.A.2 : Disabled
    Performance Enhance : Standard
System Memory Multiplyer (SPD) : [2.66D]
    Memory Frequency : [1066]
DRAM Timing Selectable (SPD) : Manual
    CAS : 5
DRAM RAS to CAS : 5
    DRAM RAS Precharge : 5
    Precharge delay (tRAS) : 15-18

    Advanced Timing Control
ACT to ACT Delay (tRRD) : 4
Rank Write to Read Delay : 4
Write to Precharge Delay : 6
Refresh to ACT Delay : 62-82
Read to Precharge Delay : 4
    Static tRead Value : 7-9
Static tRead Phase Adjust : 0 [Auto]
Command Rate (CMD) : 2 [Auto] Set 2

    Clock Driving & Skew Control
    CPU/PCIEX Clock Driving Control : 800mV
CPU Clock Skew Control : Normal
(G)MCH Clock Skew Control : Normal
    System Voltage Control : Normal
    DDR2 OverVoltage Control : [+0.20V] with 8GB you might need +0.3 (+0.3 = 2.1V)
    PCI-E OverVoltage Control : Normal
FSB OverVoltage Control :Normal +0.1 might help
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control : Normal This will need +0.2-0.35 for 4-8GB
    Loadline Calibration : Auto
    CPU Voltage Control : [1.32500v]
    Normal CPU Vcore : [1.22500v]

I need a link to it at G.Skill or the store you purchased from, but just to check the voltages which you can show with SPD Tab of CPU-z if you want.

Above settings should be good for you to use

Yes that is correct, you may need to tinker a little bit to get going, or you may need to use a slower memory speed with 8GB

I was able to get 1066Mhz without raising voltages except for DDR2 voltage and ran 10 tests with latest version of MEMtest+ 86 with no errors. Do you recommend on another software for memory testing?

                    Sounds good so far!

Yes, I use HCI Design memtest, 3-4 instances at once with 600-800MB within windows, you can get it here
MemTest: RAM reliability tester for Windows

And of course you should also run Prime95 or LinX to test CPU and ram together

Ok, I have Prim95. How many hours do you recommend?

Well 4-6 is good, 8-12 is better, and 12-24 is great.

Good luck with the testing, here is a bit of info on Prime95 in case you run into errors
