P55A UD3: No Dolby Digital using optical or coaxial

I have a 5.1 home theater in a box that I have been using with my old desktop (vista, Sound Blaster Audigy 2). When I try connecting optical or coaxial to my new desktop (see below for specs) I get sound but no Dolby Digital or DTS as in my previous setup.

Is there some setting or extra driver I need installed? I dont see anything in the Realtek HD audio settings and I cant open the windows sound control panel.

have you installed the dolby software from gigabyte? its a pretty large file

Just installed it but I get an error when I try to run it.

"An internal error has occurred. Exiting application."

tried installing x64 and x86 but got the same problem.

I have win 7 x64 btw.

try right clicking it then/properties/compatibility the tick run as admin and see if it works

same error occurs. is the file made for vista for 7?

both i think,its on gigabytes website under utilities,i dont know if it will fix it but ive used it before and it works with win7 and xp,it gives you dolby sound in movies ect but i dont know much about optical/coaxial sound,are you using your soundcard in that board too?? if so you probably need to disable the azalia codec in the bios

I tried using my old sound car but its not working as the windows sound control panel is disabled.

How do i disable that in the bios?

i think its in integrated perepherals,you will see azalia codec just disable it then it will let you use your soundcard,enable it to use the onboard sound chip

not working either.

I know the sound card will work but since the windows sound control panel is disabled I cant get to the settings. Anyone know why that is?

I tried uninstalling the realtek audio drivers and get the same result. Hopefully i wont have to reformat.

did you install the latest realtek drivers from gigabytes website?

try from here the very top one it has 32 and 64bit included just run the setup when it downloads

so dolby and dts do not work OTB u need to install the DCC first?

the dolby software? it should come on the cd and should install and run,you need to try and download and install just the microsoft universal audio bus driver,i had to do tht with xp i had no sound panel icon nothing untill i installed that then it popped up,do you get normal sound? or no sound at all or just dolby and optical isnt working?

I only have the realtek hd drivers on the cd, no dolby.

I have the sound icon but if you go to control panel and try to open the sound control panel it does nothing. I get sound through the green, black, etc outputs just not optical or coaxial.
