  • Q6600 with EP45 DS3L

    Hi guys,

About a year ago, I built a computer and have wanted to overclock it ever since but always had the same problem....and now that Starcraft II is out I have the bug to overclock it again and optimize it!!
    I have a:
    Q6600 2.4 Ghz
    EP45 DS3L F10 Bios
    Mushkin 2x2gb 1066 mhz
    Xp Professional

I have ran memtest 86+ multiple times with no errors reported. My problem is that when I go into BIOS to change the DRAM voltage to 2.1V and 5-5-5-15 as specified by mushkin, it will double boot and reset itself. If I try to change the clock speed it also does the same thing. I have followed many other suggestions online but none has made a difference on my machine. I was wanting to try 3.6 ghz which I realize might be a little much for my artic cooler 7. Any suggestions? I think its obviously a memory setting problem since it will not boot if I change the values to anything outside of the optimizied defaults.

    Re: Q6600 with EP45 DS3L

Drams can work at lower voltage don't have to set 2.1v, . Mine works at 1.6V 800Mhz and 1.8 1000.
Perhaps disable the Xms profile there in bios first and then reboot and set manually the rest.

3.6Ghz is too much for the mbd. 4 weak phases passively cooled.

3.2Ghz may be possible 400 Host, 8x ratio, just make sure to set MCH Core, Termination, Pll voltages manually, otherwize these will skyrocket if left on auto. Besides my motherboard EP45 was unable to work with 65nm cpu and more than 1.3V on MCH core, so set it below 1.28V.

Please read http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post295784 and follow steps 1-4 to provide more information about your hardware and settings.
3.6GHz are not easy to get woth Q6600, 32-3.4GHz may be possible.

For some reason these pics didn't come out the best on here, you can see them at CPU pictures by 04tdiwagon - Photobucket One is CPU-Z mainboard and one is cpu screen!!

Sorry about that changes were made to the board broke all links.

EDIT: And you say that simply changing DRAM Voltage manualy to 2.1v cause multi boot or have you made other changes as well?

If I manually set the standard dram timing control such as I had on this one, it will not boot! I have to leave it on auto to get it to boot. Please help, this is very frustrating.

                Thanks for the link!!

Changing the voltage or the standard timing to the suggested 5-5-5-15 causes a double boot or a cycle of boots where I have to disconnect the power supply for a bit for it to reset.

                  Re: Q6600 with EP45 DS3L

Memory currently running at 533MHz (DDR-1066) with 2.05v as specified in EPP, timings are set looser (5-7-7-24) due to Performance Enhance = Turbo, set it to Standard to change memory settings manually.

Run or any other memory benchmark of your choice to compare your current and manual settings. IMO it's not worth messing around if there's no gain.

                    Re: Q6600 with EP45 DS3L

Your bios template in post #7 shows that you have FAIL SAFE defaults loaded, not OPTIMIZED defaults.
Start over by loading OPTIMIZED settings first, save settings and exit, then re-enter the bios to make any needed changes.
Note: MCH Core Voltage should be set initially to 1.20 volts immediately after you've loaded OPTIMIZED settings.
I've found that Mushkin XP DDR2 1066 works best at 2.00 - 2.02 volts unless you have memory speeds higher than 1100MHz.

I've fixed the broken links in the my post that Chike referred you to in post #3.
Let us know if this helps.
