  • new gigabyte user with GA-X58A-UD5 rev. 1 board ...help with win 7 64 bit install

i am trying to get Windows 7 64 bit installed on this new setup.

GA-X58A-UD5 rev. 1 board flashed to F6J bios
Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750 Watt power supply
    6 GB Corsair Memory TR3X6G1600C8 - 8 - 8 - 8 - 24 1.65v ver. 3.2
    I7 930 2.8 intel processor
    Noctua NH-U9B SE2 cooler
    XFX HD5770 1GB DDR5 Video
PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

I can't seem to get past many different BSOD trying to get Windows 7 64 bit installed. I have swapped out everything including the motherboard and i know it must be a setting but don't know which to try to get it stable at first.

    Thanks in advance

i have tried the tips about disabling the Floppy drive settings and setting the Hard disk as the First in boot order when windows boots during install. That didn't help with the errors.

AHCI enabled? Make sure you set the correct boot order.

set qpi/vtt voltage to 1.30000v and see if it helps, os hdd should be in the intel port 0 and sata dvd drive in intel port 4/5

You shouldn't have to do anything with voltage tweaks. Since you're running Windows 7, what you want to do is set the ICH SATA control mode to AHCI (see page 55 of your manual), start installation of Windows and when asked, install the "GIGABYTE SATA2 Preinstall driver (For AHCI / RAID Mode)". Note: Press F6 during Windows setup to read from floppy, (or USB drive). Get the latest version here... GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE

win7 has ahci drivers built in,just set to ahci before install but its not that imo,if its blue screening while your trying to install it then its either memory or psu related, sometimes qpi/vtt on auto will cause blue screening, its only if you install in ide mode then after installation switch the sata ports to ahci mode that it will boot loop at startup

True, Win 7 does have AHCI drivers built in, but I prefer the latest ones for the board. That's me.

As for BSODing, It could be a host of things. I don't think it would hurt to try my solution, or even the ones you suggest. I just like to start with simple stuff first. Again, that's me. BTW I have the same board, CPU & memory and it worked just like I posted. However if the hardware is faulty, or incorrectly installed, well...

With that said, make sure the memory is properly installed in the "White" dimm slots.

              Let us know

Re: new gigabyte user with GA-X58A-UD5 rev. 1 board ...help with win 7 64 bit install

First of all thanks to everyone who has replied so far.

I was able to get the Win 7 64 bit installed without errors.

I needed to change Intel Turbo Tech to " Disabled ". I did change the the Qpi/vtt to 1.295 ( as close to 1.30 that i saw). I put the Dram voltage to 1.5 and put the Perf. Enhance to Standard.

I did try the voltage Qpt/vtt first without disabling the turbo tech. but that did not work.

I would like to tweak it further once i see if it's stable this week. Should i post the template settings here ?

Thanks again for everyones help. I will update as i progress further with the build.

                    Quick question before i continue...

                    I have G Skill Memory 6 GB

                    F3 - 12800CL9T6GBNQ

                    CL 9 - 9 - 9 - 24 1.5v

Should i stay with the Corsair listed above or change to the G Skill ?

Is one better for performance ?

                    Thanks

the corsair has better timings and cas rating i would use those and set dram voltage to 1.66 which is 1.64 in windows

If you go by timings... the Corsair is better. 8-8-8-24. performs better than 9-9-9-24. BTW I have my Corsiar memory set at 8-8-8-20-1T, @1600MHz, 1.640volts. OC to 3.3 (3.5 turbo).

Here are my current Bios Settings. The system seems stable and i am installing software in the next few days.

Can i save the bios settings somewhere so i can revert to them in case of a crash ?

I would like to have speed but stability is most important to me for this system. I will use it to record audio and sometimes capture video.

                          Thanks again .... Rex

see my sig for 3.8ghz overclock try that first, you might need to underclock your ram speed a little as it depends on what bclk you set,

use these settings and see how you get on

EDIT: you can use @bios to save your oc bios settings to a bios file but please dont flash with @bios use q-flash to flash the oc bios with all your oc settings on,use coretemp to monitor your temps dont let them go over 80c if you can help it,you will need to test and stress for stability/temps with linx or prime95,if you want a lower overclock and 1600mhz then let me know

Personally, and seeing that you already had BSOD's with Windows, I'd get everything set up and working before doing any overclocks. It's safer, and easier, to troubleshoot from a known in-spec (no overclecked hardware) starting point. You'll also know if you have bad components right off the bat.

Also there's no way you should have had to disable turbo mode to get Windows installed on that board. Not saying it didn't work, just saying it's not supposed to be an issue, unless....??? I basically have the same system as you; look at my specs below.

I won't/can't argue with wazza300 on his OC tips, he has more experience than I do. However I do think you need to get your system running stable at "stock" speeds before jumping to a 3.8gig OC.

                              My two cents.
