  • Turning off Virtualization on P55A-UD3 makes CPU cores run hotter.

Turning off Virtualization in BIOS makes the CPU cores report at least 10 degrees hotter during normal usage. Can this be explained by any logical cause?

Nope, just Virtualization. C-states all left the same, and every other setting too. I'm using the F9 BIOS, but had the same issue on the F5 bios as well. Didn't report it before because I assumed it was just an issue restricted to the F5 bios. It seems when I turn Virtualization off, the automatic fan speed doesn't kick on at the same temperature levels? I'm at a loss, it's strange. It's a weird bug, I don't mind leaving virtualization support on, but since I don't really need it, I figured turning it off would be better.

when you flashed bios did you untick keep dmi pool data? then load optimized defaults? i cant think why it would affect temps unless its a bios bug

I don't recall selecting anything like that, and I cleared the CMOS after flashing, and it still seems to exhibit this behavior.

its when you flash with q-flash you will see a tiny box saying clear or keep dmi pool data, cant remember but you need to tick or untick it so that it clears it,it might not solve it but its worth a try

How important is this, anyway? Will turning off virtualization support actually give me any measurable performance boost?

no,its just for software like in windows 7 if you want to use xp virtual os,and stuff like that,it doesnt hurt performance whether its on or off

Ya, it's fine on or off, wont matter to you unless it's off and you wanted to use it - then you would need to turn it on :)

What you describe does sound like a BIOS bug though, I mean about the fan states with it on/off, they should be the same either way.

If you want you could send in a report of your findings and ask them to forward this info to the BIOS engineers to see if they can fix this in a future update
