  • 790FXTA-UD5 and sleep problem

I've had this new setup for 5 mos. now and it has been working perfectly, sleep mode and all. Now all of a sudden, in the last two or three weeks it does not want to sleep, I haven't made changes to the hardware or software during this time.
The monitor will shut down as normal, but the comp will not shutdown, it just stays on, and after a while, when I come back to use the computer, hit the mouse, the screen will come on, and the mouse may or may not move again.
It will eventually freeze for 1 to 4 minutes before I can resume using the computer normally. (It's like sleeping with its eyes open). It will go through all the movement and keystrokes I hit during this freeze up period instantaneously.
What would be a likely cause?

bios has been F2, - using S3 mode__
    Win 7 Ult. 64 bit
I've been trying different power options since this happened to no avail.
not running third party programs in the background, or utilities.
I have upgraded my ATI video drivers, problem still exists.
I have not changed my user habits during this time
Probably only installed windows updates to system

Is this something with the motherboard?
    any suggestions
    Thanks

if it was working fine before, and I can put it in to sleep mode (manually only) now, why should a different bios make it work again.

b-t-w a newer bios is out but it is a beta I believe..F3F, and you can't download it from Gigabyte's normal outlet.

it depends whether any windows updates have installed and are now affecting it,maybe a new bios inc beta bios will have a fix its worth a try,you can always flash back....only use q-flash to flash with though

          Re: 790FXTA-UD5 and sleep problem

Several things and programs and devices can cause this issue. Here is a list of things you may want to try. Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums
The Windows 7 tool should narrow it down for you. Type ' powercfg -ENERGY ' in Start/Search Programs and Files. After it has finished type ' energy-report.html ' in Start/Search Programs and Files. A list should appear when you open energy-report.html. There will be devices and programs listed in pinks, yellows, and whites. Once you find a device in pink try disableing that device just long enough to see if that's what is causing the issue. If it is causing the issue see if the drivers or program has a checkbox to prevent it from interrupting the sleep mode. Warning it could be multiple devices. It will be up to you to narrow it down the rest of the way.

            Re: 790FXTA-UD5 and sleep problem

Thanks for a bit more info Art.
I have been going around those pages for a couple of days now. There is tons of info there.
I have been checking things out.. So far, everything in my settings seems be on par for my system to sleep properly.

I'll try the -energy and keep trying this till I figure it out.

I wish the system kept restore points longer than 2 weeks by default, I hate to resort back to my saved image I made after I did my install.
I do like the automatic power savings we can get with these new systems.
