  • GA-EP45-UD3P Rev. 1.1 F6 Q9550 4GHz

Hello all, i'm back again to oc a Q9550 to 4GHz! Because my current E8400 4GHz just isn't getting the job done for me anymore.

Right now im extremely stable (no bsod in over a year) and my max temps are only 57c, which they could be better.. but i had to replace my zalman fan and put a titan fenrir xmas edition cooler on it, the rpms are slower so a new 120mm fan might be needed(2200).

My goal for this q9550 is a 4GHz stable overclock, i need a 471FSB speed i believe and right now i have a stable 445FSB E8400, in theory i should only have to touch VTT and core voltage, not the ram correct? cause its timed perfectly (thanks to the 2008 members on here :p)

You can ask me any question you desire, right now i'm going to be picking the processor up from the store so ill be gone for about an hour, and probably another hour to get the proc dropped into place on my mobo ;p

    any help would be appreciated

Edit: I will not be using EasyTune6, i will be in the bios. And i will only be testing with Prime95, speedfan, realtemp, and possibly intel burn in test(if necessary).

Practically we need to see your settings to answer this. If you are using 2.40B multiplier you will probably need to use 2.00x, and tRD is likely to change too.

MCH Voltage may need increased as well, but like Chike said we really would need to see your full settings before we could say for sure but you shouldn't have too much to change aside from those few things as you test for stability

        Re: GA-EP45-UD3P Rev. 1.1 F6 Q9550 4GHz

Whoa sorry for not replying sooner, me and dad had a really busy fathers day ;p but anyways lets get down to business shall we? here are the requested specs.

ive had it on all day, i tested prime 95 for the length of a shower, letting it run large ffts for 1 minute each test. 67c was max on core 0.. i wasn't too happy with seeing that, but whatever theres always my 4GHz c2d.

Also this Q9550 IS E0. Just in case it matters. I slapped these specs in and so far its stable without choppyness during games, and it doesnt have a hint of failure while starting up, took about 2 hours total to pull my c2d out and put my c2q in and oc it to these specs. Now you may be thinking why am i still asking, well i want to know if there is more stable specs or possibly if i can get my ram running higher than 942Mhz. (the next option is 1142 i believe which i didnt test cause it seems out of reach for stability reasons).

Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB 5-5-5-15 1066 2.1v is my ram.

Any other questions i will be happy to answer, thank you guys for the responses :]

Looks ok, see what memory Performance Level is with MemSet, it's possible you can lower it few levels.

I'm not sure how to use memset but the controls were pretty straight forward for running it ;p if i missed something let me know and ill post asap.

tRFC 60 should be sufficient, looks as it it's not set auto, and you may try to lower Static tRead Value to 9 (currently set to 10).

                Re: GA-EP45-UD3P Rev. 1.1 F6 Q9550 4GHz

ah well the timings 5-5-5-15 are manually set but everything else in the bios is auto.. and actually adjusting those would "I" see any performance? if i'm not going to see any performance difference then it wont bother me to tweak it, but is there any possible way to get higher stable mhz out of this ram? its 1066 ram but its running at 942 (as you can see) how much performance am i actually losing? and is it worth the tweaking effort?

Edit: The ram doesnt like being oc'd into the 1100s, i found this out with my c2d build.

Depands on what you do, changes won't be very noticeable though. Both the changes I have mentioned should not effect stability.
Auto should have set tRFC to 61 by default.

well thats kind of weird.. that memset shows 68 but cpu-z shows 60... which one to believe when its set to auto in the bios? lol

(and what i do on the computer is play games/stream hd movies through 100ft of hdmi/encode 1080p.)

changing those mentioned settings doesnt even post ;p (i changed them through the bios) also made an awkward hardware related noise, i think ill stop while i'm ahead before i fry my ram.

other than those suggested options stability is the best as its going to get (ram wise)? unless i blow 500fsb which i dont really want to do since my temps are already 67c after prime 95.

Lowering your tRD would affect performance the most, 10 is pretty high too I would try 9 for sure.

I would also lower your MCH Core voltage (Try 1.20-1.24), 1.36 is way too much, also set Performance Enhance to Standard

for some reason when i set it to 9 in the bios (each channel) it wont post even while running it standard, so i just went back to the working setup, probably my rams clocking capability is awful..

well update, its been stable at those settings posted on the first page since i put them in, i think ill walk away with my cookies now..

thanks for trying to get the memory straightened out, but it seems that my memory isnt good enough to even alter a single thing on. as for the mch core, ill probably drop it back down to the normal voltage.. 1.20 from my last e8400 4ghz should be okay even though the fsb speed is higher right?

Yes I spam posts with this.
trd 9 at 490(1960 fsb) was fairly easy , it took a bit opf tweaking to get it at 2000 fsb.

1880-1900 fsb which is what you are using with a 8.5 multiplier for 4 ghz.you should be able to get away with a much lower mchv.what that is you will have to determne for yourself.Probably 1.28 or less.
do use a memory bandwith test programme and expect 10gb/s read and 10-11 gb/s copy/write as a maximum.

Something like 480-490 cpu ref with multiplier at 8.5 ,mch v below 1.4, cpu v at around 1.4-1.43v and memory at 2.2v or below on a 2:00D multiplier should give reasonable performance
