  • GA-890-UD3H No Mouse Support in DOS

This mobo does not have a PS/2 mouse port. Actually I need to correct that...it has only
one PS2 port, for either a keyboard or a mouse. I need two ports, so both are available
    in DOS.

When a USB mouse is used, the mouse is inoperative in Caldera DOS (which I need desperately to run Drive Image 2002). Will a Y cable in the PS/2 port support both a mouse and a keyboard on the female ends?
    Update: No, that didn't work.

you can buy a cheap usb to ps2 adaptor for your mouse then it should work

NEW PS2 TO USB ADAPTER FOR KEYBOARD or MOUSE PS/2 PS 2 on eBay (end time 11-Jul-10 12:05:52 BST)

or a ps2 splitter for a mouse and keyboard from a single ps2 plug

"...you can buy a cheap usb to ps2 adaptor for your mouse then it should work.)

Please permit me to try again. This new mobo has no PS/2 mouse port. That forces me to plug my mouse into a USB port. Therefore, a USB to PS2 adapter would not solve the problem, there is no PS2 mouse port.

I'm going to try a Y cable, two female ends, one male end, into the PS2 keyboard port,
with both the keyboard and PS2 mouse connected to that.

      Thanks.

Re: GA-890-UD3H No Mouse Support in DOS

Did you enable Legacy USB Storage Detect (may also be called USB Storage, Legacy Storage, ect) in the Integrated Peripherals page of the BIOS?

If you have not do so now, this normally corrects this issue.

If it does not then you will need to send in a report and let them know the USB Keyboard/mouse model you are trying to use and maybe they can make a BIOS fix for you

Yes, Legacy USB is enabled in the BIOS...but me thinks the mobo doesn't recognize that fact. Perhaps Gigabyte will come out with a new bios to solve that problem.

I also purchased and tried the Y splitter for two PS2 devices. That didn't work, said "mouse driver loaded' then right below that it said "no mouse installed no mouse driver loaded." The keyboard then worked, the mouse did not.

            Woe is me.

OK so you have no USB drivers for DOS. However the motherboard does have a com port. You could connect a serial port connector to the com port on the motherboard and use a serial port to ps2 adapter, or find a serial mouse. Below are a couple of links showing the connectors needed.

Re: GA-890-UD3H No Mouse Support in DOS

Some DOS programs do not actually even load a Mouse driver, this may be the case here, if your keyboard works but not your mouse then that is likely the issue especially since you mention driver (Sorry I didn't notice before)

What DOS program are you using, do you have room on the floppy to add in a driver and do you know how to edit batch files (If CD you should have plenty of room)

Here is the drivers and how that is done if you are not sure

Re: GA-890-UD3H No Mouse Support in DOS

If for some reason you do not want to use your com port. Try installing a USB Keyboard and a PS2 mouse.
You only have 3 USB functions in your BIOS, and nothing about a USB mouse. The quote below is from (page 51) of your motherboard manual.
                    [QUOTE]USB Controllers
Enables or disables the integrated USB controllers. (Default: Enabled)
Disabled will turn off all of the USB functionalities below.
                    USB Legacy Function
Allows USB keyboard to be used in MS-DOS. (Default: Enabled)
                    USB Storage Function
Determines whether to detect USB storage devices, including USB flash drives and USB hard drives during the POST. (Default: Enabled)
                    Code:
