  • Front USB ports won't power an external USB HD?

I noticed this on my first build with a EX58-UD4P and dismissed it as a small hardware issue I was willing to overlook. My second build with the X58A-UD5 shows the same issue. While they're all read a thumb drive, none of my front panel USB ports (attached to the appropriate mobo headers) will recognize a small drive like a Passport or the like.

Am I missing a setting somewhere? I believe I have all USB settings enabled in the BIOS.

    Thanks!

Yes, both USB 1.0 and 2.0 are enabled. SATA Port0-3 Native Mode is Enabled (works at Native IDE Mode). This doesn't affect the USB ports, does it?

How about Legacy USB Storage, or USB Storage Detect, that is what they were asking about

No such setting or anything that looks similar in my BIOS as far as I can tell. Should I be looking somewhere else?

Hey wazza, I found those on my own and ran the file on both machine. All USB legacy settings are enabled, I've updated the drivers. I'm starting to think it may be this Passport drive. I've reformatted it, but it still won't recognize it. Keeps trying and failing to install the drivers. I don't know what's up, but thanks for the help.

Yep, all the rear ones work great, but all the on-board headers are spec'd as USB 2.0 and 1.1, according to Gigabyte.

Yes, please test the rear ports, and also test this drive on another PC if you can to be sure it is not faulty.

If it does work in another machine it just may not be compatible with this board is all, not all external devices always will be
