• Windows 7 Professional locks up while installing at "installing features"

Hi there, I've just built this computer GA-H55M-S2H MOBO running the Intel i5-750, 4 GB (2X2gb) DDR3 1333 PNY. Here's the problem, when loading Windows 7 Professional 32-bit, like alot of people it seems to take forever, but in my case I only get to the starting setup and after 6-8 minuter there the cursor quits going around and around, and I'm frozen. I was told to go into standard BIOS and remove the floppy then go into Advanced Bios and take the floppy out of the boot order, this worked GREAT. Now I could get the the EULA, next I chose "Custom Install" it gave me the message Installing Windows your computer may restart several times. Then it went to "Copying Windows Files", this went very quick and I got a green check mark. Next it went to Expanding Windows Files with the 3 dots going over and over, up to 100%. Then it jumps to Installing features the green bar go about half way across in a second and everything freezes. All parts are new and here is what I've done so far. Replaced Motherboard (with same type), Tried 2 different PCIe Video cards, Tried 2 different HDD's. I've used 3 different memory programs to test the RAM, each time it shows everything is OK. I've taken voltage reading at the power supply (again everything is OK). Additionally I've cleared BIOS, and loaded default settings. I've reformated the HDD under the repair features, and started this over and over many times. This is a Microsoft Disk not one made by a ISO image. I've tried repair, and it tells me the Boot manager is missing or corrupt. I've gone to the Command prompt and ran "Diskpart" selecting disk0 and partition1 and BootRec" with /FixMbr, /FixBoot, and /Rebuild Bcd. After rebooting I get the starting Windows logo and the system reboots... Any help would be appricated, Thanks

I'm using SATA drives, HDD is plugged into SATA0 and the 2 DVDRW are plugged into SATA1 and SATA2. I formatted using the Windows 7 repair format function. I'll try switching the SATA ports for the DVD drive...

try that first with just one dvd drive in sata port 5 and hdd in sata port 0,take out one stick of ram and just install/leave one stick in the first white slot from cpu socket and then try installing win7 again

Well I tried moving the DVDRW to SATA5 no change... Also I forgot to tell everyone that if I just start the install it might lockup at any where between expanding files (i.e. 21% 87%), dufferent times, But if I keep moving the mouse it will go all the way to "Installing Features" before it locks up...

ok are you using latest bios?,go in bios under m.i.t section and manually set your qpi/vtt voltage to 1.20000v set dram voltage according to your ram, then try again but with the two modules of ram installed

Re: Windows 7 Professional locks up while installing at "installing features"

Well Trying with the DVD in SATA5 and only 1 stick of RAM didn't help, I even swapped the RAM around trying each stick in the slot next to the cpu. No change. I set the voltage for the DRAM to 1.5 which was the rated voltage and when it was set in auto it was also 1.5. As for the qpi/vtt it was set in auto at 1.100, there is no 1.2000, it goes from 1.050 / 1.100 / 1.1500 / 1.1700 / 1.1900 / 1.210 / 1.230, and goes up from there... I set it at 1.1900 and tried it again no change.... I really appricate your help with this cuz I'm starting to pull my hair out...Hahaha funny to me cuz I have cancer right now and already lost my hair... Have to find the humor in things...

Re: Windows 7 Professional locks up while installing at "installing features"

You can check your BIOS version by going into the BIOS and pressing F9 on the MAIN page.

Be sure you disable "A Drive" in standard CMOS BIOS page at the bottom, this is what slows down the OS install. Of course you may have some settings off for your memory or it may not be compatible with the BIOS you have now so check that too and update.

Really, you can just update if you want, no need to check the BIOS version since you have not updated it's probably not the latest.

Download the latest version here (F6l)

My hat comes off for Wazza300, I hope this helps anyone else like myself, after messing with this for 3 days, and being stupid cuz I didn't read Wazza300 advice with a 100% attention I downloaded the beta version of the newest Bios from Gigabyte which had inproved micro codes for the newest processors, and this fixed it. It also cooled the processor by 4 degrees celius. I hope this helps... And again thanks a bunch Wazza300, your help was fantastic...

Hi!

I have a lenovo thinkpad edge e125. I downloaded a Win7 x64 professional iso from MSDNA using my license, and created a bootable pen drive. I select the drives, format them, and start the installation, but thats where the problem occurs: The issue is the same as the OP's: the instalation gets stuck at the "Installing features" phase

please help me solve this problem!

specs:
cpu: amd e-450
ram: 4gb 1333mhz ddr3

Can you use a bootable DVD instead of the USB?
If you have two memory modules installed, remove one module and try to install win7.
Can you provide a link to the user manual?
There might be some bios options that can be modified to temporarily "dumb down" your system.
What type of install are you attempting. Clean install? Upgrade install?
