  • Overclock i7 ga-ex58-extreme overclock

Alright, I am ready to overclock my i7. So I was thinking to go to about 4.0ghz maybe 4.25ghz if possible.
Also whats the fastest speed I can get my memory because I heard you cant get 2000mhz without i7980x
    so here are my specs.
    Mobo-ga-ex58-extreme
    cpu-i7 930(batch#3001A187)(with IC diamond 24carat thermal paste)
    hdd-1.5tb seagate
    psu-ocz modstream 700watt
    heatsink-venomous-x(one Scythe DFS123812H-3000(soon to be 9SG1212P1G01;6krpm 260cfm))
    memory-KHX2000C9D3T1K3/6GX(2000mhz cas 9)
    Monitor-Dell S2009W

    Re: Overclock i7 ga-ex58-extreme overclock

you can run ram at 2000mhz but will probably need a huge amount of qpi/vtt voltage, its better to run at 1866mhz or 1800mhz and use less voltage, try my oc template if you want for 3.8ghz and work from there, you may need more cpu voltage 1.2-1.3v and set dram voltage to 1.66,you can try with a 21x cpu multiplier if you want as it tends to use less voltage than a 22x its up to you whatever is most stable and needs less volts

      Re: Overclock i7 ga-ex58-extreme overclock

4.0 Ghz is easy for that board with my 965
i had to set Vcore to 1.4
      QPI/Vtt 1.355
      ram at 1.64
if i remember right BLCK 160
look at your ram mulitipler dont let ram speed go over 1800

thats what it took me now you have a different chip so it might need a little more or less

alright 1866 mhz is fine but if I can get 1900 please do. Also Lsdmeasap if you can make a template with these settings that be great. Thanks or if anyone already has a ready made template

          Re: Overclock i7 ga-ex58-extreme overclock

Try these for 1600 for now, so you can see if you can get 4.2 stable.

To run 1866 or above is not going to really be ideal for you unless you want to run at 4Ghz or less only, more will only make your options limited.

I say that because you want to use either the x19 or x21 CPU multi, for stability and ease of use (less voltages), using those only give you a few options for higher ram speed and those mean lower CPU freq.

Like said above you can try 2000Mhz, and probably get it going with higher QPI/Vtt (1.4-1.5+) but that is not ideal for daily use unless you can get it stable at the lower range of 1.4ish

The uncore gets VERY hard to stabilize at 4Ghz, which it will be no matter what way you try to reach 2000mhz ram speed)

Your ram is 2000 CAS 9, so not sure what timings you can use at 1600Mhz, the above ones should be ok to use I for this kit I would think. If you hae a tough time getting things going set 888-20 at first.

Below values may be left in Auto if you like, generally this is fine. For those users who DO Set advanced timings manually, please see some of my thoughts and findings about these settings and rules here
