You can make the bios changes using your current memory, but you don't want to boot with your new bios settings and using your old memory.

I'll SWAG it on the initial MCH Core setting, set it to 1.20 volts.

Yes, set DRAM Voltage = 2.10 volts, otherwise you'll need to set 5-5-5-15 primary memory timings for 800MHz.
Running with 1066MHz memory speeds might give somewhat better memory performance in some games or memory intensive applications.

Using the recommended settings will run your system at stock 3.0GHz speeds for now.

3.60GHz is overclocking your cpu by 20% and we can try this at a later time.
Running with 7.5 x 400MHz is a pseudo-overclock where your cpu is running at stock speeds, but you'll have some improved overall performance.

I'm concerned with the cpu core temps in your screen-shot if your system was at idle.
If you had Prime95 or another intensive task running in the background, this probably isn't an issue.
At idle, your core temps should around 35 - 40 (C) unless your cpu has a really bad case of stuck sensors.
Unless you have unusually high room temperatures (higher than 30 C), it looks like your stock Intel heat-sink/fan isn't properly seated. You might want to disable to automatic cpu fan speed control in your bios to see if this helps.

Let's make sure your system is stable at stock cpu speeds for now.
The good stuff can come later.

Silly me, I should have known that 1200w in Australia = 1200 rpm on this side of the pond.

        Hi profJim,

        Thanks for the answer.

This is the coretemp that i screenshot after leaving my pc idle for 15 mins

Is this bad, how should i improve it if it's bad?

For the bios setting, i think i will wait for my G.skill to come tomorrow and set the bios setting. I am quite interested in overclocking 20% of my cpu to 3.60 Ghz and quite stable. Well as you said, the good stuff can come later. I will set my bios after i receive my RAM tomorrow and post again.

        Thanks

Re: GA Ep45-DS3 and OCZ 2x2GB PC28500/1066Mhz Reaper or OCZ 2x2GB PC26400/800Mhz Reap

The cpu core temps are are a bit high for a system at stock settings.

Make sure that the rear fan is exhausting hot air out the back and that the front fan is drawing in air from the room.
In the bios PC Health Status section, change CPU Smart FAN Control from ENABLED to DISABLED. This will run your cpu fan at full speed at all times.

If this doesn't help, you should verify that the cpu heat-sink is fully seated. If you remove the heat-sink, you'll need to clean the thermal material from the cpu and heat-sink and then re-apply the proper amount of T.I.M.

If worse comes to worse, you can remove the side panel and set up a desk fan to blow room air into the case to see if that helps.
Can you mount an additional fan on the case side panel?

There's no problem with running your system at stock speeds with your new memory.
A 20% overclock is usually OK with the stock cooling setup, but your system would run hotter than it should if we proceed with an overclock.

If one of your fans is hooked up to the SYS_FAN2 header, that fan is probably only spinning at half speed, possibly less.
You can connect to the SYS_FAN1 or PWR_FAN header to have your fan running at full speed.

If your room temperature is 25 (C) or less, your core temps are ~ 5 or more degrees hotter than they should be.

Did you ever run IBT, LinX, Prime95, or OCCT stress tests with your current setup?
We don't want to risk possible data/file corruption.

            Hi profJim,

I am not running anything like IBT,Linx or OCCT. I am kinda new to overclocking. My room temp is kinda around 20(c).. Not sure why my cpu runs at 45-50(c).

I can't install any case side fan, i have checked my fan, cool air come in from front bottom to cool my HD and hot air out at back of my pc case.

I am gonna restart and check my PC health bios setting.

If i am going to overclock at 20% of my cpu, is this going to be a problem? Or should i check the heat sink? I am noob on that

Re: GA Ep45-DS3 and OCZ 2x2GB PC28500/1066Mhz Reaper or OCZ 2x2GB PC26400/800Mhz Reap

Check to see if either of the case fans are hooked up to the SYS_FAN2 mobo header or you can verify your fan speeds with EasyTune6, SpeedFan, HWMonitor, Everest or other software monitoring programs.
You might be able to check to see if the cpu heat-sink is connected by gently pulling up on each of the push-pin mounts.
You can try to gently rock the heat-sink to see if any of the mounting pins is not fully seated to the motherboard.

If you need to remove the cpu heat-sink, you should see a fairly even distribution of the thermal compound.
There are many pictures on the web that show what a typical thermal pattern should look like.

To verify that your system is stable at stock speeds, the IBT or LinX test needs to run for 10 loops, which will be less than 20 minutes. Cpu core temps typically run about 60 (C) during this test. Higher than 70 - 75 (C) won't kill your system, but this indicates that you have a cooling problem and probably need to upgrade your cpu cooling setup.

The Prime95 stabiltiy test needs to run for at least 6 - 12 hours to make sure that your system is stable. Temperatures for this test typically run 10 or more degrees cooler than the IBT or LinX test.

Let's proceed with making sure your system is stable with your new memory with stock settings.

Click on the last line in my signature for an excellent Prime95 tutorial the covers some basics of stress testing.

You have the trial version of HWMonitor Pro. It shows your SYSTEM and CPU temperature readings, but it doesn't show the Core0 and Core1 temperatures. If you download the HWMonitor or SpeedFan programs (bothl are freeware), they will display both of your core temps, as well as fan speeds, voltages, and other temperatures.
** edit ** Your fan speeds show that all are running at full speed, but one of your fans is running at 1500 watts....uhh.....rpm.

I'm not running an E8400, but with my 3.50GHz overclock and room temp = 23 (C), my core temps at idle are both 41 - 42 (C).
I'm using a good middle tier cpu cooler that cost about $30 (USD), an Artic Cooling Freezer Pro (rev: 2).

I don't play games on my system, so I don't know how hot your cpu will get while gaming. When I run IBT or LinX using THREADS = 2 and the maximum amount of memory possible, my core temps are 60 - 62 (C). Running Prime95, my core temps are 51 - 52 (C) when my room temperature is 20 - 21 (C).

You can configure CoreTemp or RealTemp to automatically create a log file of your core temps while the program is running.
Create a temperature log file and see how hot your current system gets while running your most demanding games.

I suggest that you run 10 loops of IBT or LinX to monitor your core temps with your current memory. This will be a fairly quite and "dirty" stress test. If either of there programs generate any errors, there's no sense to running Prime95 unless you are a masochist.

If there are no errors, then run Prime95 BLEND test for at least 3 hours to verify that your current system is reasonably stable.

Note: IBT or LinX might pass the test, only to have Prime95 or OCCT fail within minutes, or possibly after 3 - 12 hours or more.
My preference is to run each of the three Prime95 tests individually for at least 12 hours, 24 hours is even better.

I often cheat a bit and only run Prime95 for 6 - 8 hours while I'm doing incremental overclocking.
My "final" overclock setting is where I run each Prime95 and/or OCCT test for 24 hours.
OCCT has a great "psu" test that is similar to running Furmark and IBT at the same time. Can you say "gimme more heat?"
I only run this psu test for 1 or 2 hours.

Welcome to the often tedious world of overclocking and stress testing.

                    Hi profJim,

I am back from Prime95 stress testing for 6hours and 15 minutes, no errors.. core 0 run for around 60(c) and core 1 run for around 62(c)

Seems like my PC is stable, time to wait for my RAM and overclock a bit :D

Just run Linx for 10 times, no errors but both my cpu up around 68-69(C)..

I research some of the CPU Cooler, but find out that most of nowadays coolers are big in size. This is a problem for me as my Huntkey case is quite small coz I bought my PC in a bundle, so it's come by default. As for the CPU cooler, i have no idea what brand it is but it run for 2800rpm+..

See my PM, your comments to me in PM sounds like you have a faulty channel.

Can you boot with one stick of memory in slots 1 and then 3 by themselves?

Nope, not with 2gb G.skill PC28500/1066 on slot 1 or 3. However,I can boot with my old RAM which is Corsair Xm2 1gb 800mhz on slot 1 and 3

                              Try these settings.

Use only one stick to set them, put the single stick in whatever slot will work then put in these settings and save/apply/reboot to windows, then shut down and put in the second stick. First try using 1+3 and if that fails try the same again in 2+4

                              Code:

You may also need to adjust MCH Ref to get them to work, see my signature on how that works. The quick answer is you set Vtt to stock value 1.20, then adjust MCH ref to what you want, then adjust Vtt back to what you want to use.

You might need to use 1.225-1.25 Vtt, with .68-.74 MHC ref
