  • X58-UD3R Rev 1.6 & 920 D0 @ 4Ghz [*FAIL*]

As the title says, i've been trying for almost a week different bios settings for 4Ghz. Nothing seems to work, i can do 3.8Ghz with 1.28v (BIOS, 1.21v Full LOAD).

I've no idea what to touch...i believe i tried everything: High Vcore - High QPI/VTT - Relaxed timings - 1.66Vdimm - 1.88 CPU PLL - PCIe 101 but yet i cant even manage to pass 40 seconds @ LinX (BSOD 124 which is related with VTT as far i understood but yet i cant really pinpoint the exact problem) however i can do without any issue 5 hours of linx (Signature) @ 3.8Ghz HT off.

Perhaps my 920's IMC is really crappy ?.

Hopefully someone will give me a hand ^^.

    Thanks for reading.

what qpi/vtt voltage are you using for 4ghz? did you set uncore freq to twice mem multi plus one? or plus two?

I tried from 1.15 (Default) up to 1.35 (Intel max safe correct ?). Regarding the uncore i think i was using mem multiplier (8x+1), 17 i guess.

No matter what i kept getting BSOD 124.

124 BSOD means you need more QPI/Vtt, you can try more or a lower uncore multi. Either way more is fine, 1.35 max is only if you are using 1.5 vdimm.

You only need to keep the QPI/Vtt within .5 of the dram voltage, meaning you can use any voltage for QPI/Vtt or Vdimm you like, as long as they remain within .5 of each other.

See my thoughts on XMP and QPI/Vtt amounts here

you can use upto 1.5 qpi voltage you may need more than 1.35,try with 1.4v for qpi/vtt and raise one click at a time, dont be scared to use more than 1.35v qpi its safe to go above that dont go higher than 1.5v though, you wont need that much

            Thanks for your answer.

What do you think i should put ? 1.4 ? I got air cooling (TRUE 120 @ PushPull).
Untill now i thought it was a huge risk go past 1.35 QPI / VTT.

Tried with almost 1.5 QPI, still same problem.
At 4GHZ i get BSOD 124 after 15 seconds of LinX.

                Any other suggestion :< ?

try with just 2x ram multi for your uncore freq, and lower qpi/vtt voltage say 1.4v

What uncore are you using now, sorry it's too hard to see in your image.

Try using only 2x ram multi if you are using more than that, if you are already just using 2x then try using 2x + 1-2 and see if that helps.

x44 QPI might help too, if you stay at 180 Bclk.

Normally 124 BSOD is QPi/Vtt, but it can also be Vcore if it is way to low, and you are using 1.21 under load so that might not be enough. Try the above and if none of that helps try 1.25 Vcore under load real quick and see if the 124 BSOD stops, of course use 1.35-1.375 QPI while testing this

Finally (the evil BSOD 124 was related with vcore) i managed to do 4Ghz with 1.28 QPI and 1.33vCore (1.27 @ Full LOAD), 25 loops of linx stable, 75c max temp but i think i will stick with 3.8Ghz & 1.21vcore @ full load, at least until i switch to a proper water cooling. I don't like to stay above of 70 degrees.

Nice to see you found the cause!

Sorry I didn't mention it earlier, or more often so others notice that, but it's not normally vcore related so i rarely have to mention it.

Yea well, i followed every possible guide and it states everywhere that BSOD 124 is related with VTT/QPI voltage, problably my case is rare one, gladly it wasnt a problem with the motherboard nor the cpu.

Next week i will get a decent WC setup, after that i will post my results.

One quick question, i managed to do 3.9Ghz with 1.26vcore @ Full load (linx) and 1.28qpi.
                            Are my temps safe ?

                            42-44 @ Idle - 72-74 @ Full

Any risk to damage the board or the cpu ?. Another question btw, shall i enable the energy saving features such as Intel SpeedStep, will they affect my OC ?.

no temps are fine, keep below 80c if you can maybe 82c max you wont damage anything the mb/cpu safety features will shut down pc before it gets hot enough to damage cpu,you can use eist and c1e if you want,it doesnt affect my oc maybe disable if your 4ghz+,if your running windows 7 then disable c1e in the bios and use windows7 power saving profile(select balanced) it will do same job as c1e but is better imo
