    hi all,

My pc with Windows 7 wont boot after upgarding my ram from 4 to 8 gb with all new 4 X 2gb kingston pc2-6400 (KVR 800D2N6/2g)

With 8 gb on board, the windows boot up logo shows and it stays there without any warning or error message, Bios shows full 8gb ram btw,, and i dont have any overclock settings, its all default.

btw i can boot with 1gb less ram, 3X 2gb sticks + 1X 1gb stick. it dosent matter which slot im removing

    system spec attached

im not much hardware techy, but can follow instructions if any one can help me,

    Thanks.

You should set your ram voltage to 1.85 or so manually, then set performance enhance to standard, and set +0.2-0.3 MCH Voltage

tried with that voltage adjustment, but still same. not going past windows logo screen.

hey its strange, i can boot in safe-mode . does this mean anything?

Hmm, yes that might mean something.

Is it fine with 4GB in normal mode though?

You really should update your BIOS as that one is quite old, latest is F6

If you do update, please DO NOT USE @BIOS!! Use Qflash, here is a guide

Also, with 8GB you may need to adjust tRFC (Refresh to Act Delay) to 72-88

Ok, well since 4Gb is fine in normal mode then I think it isn't anything to do with the OS, just settings we need to find and adjust is all

hurrey,,, Bios update worked, its booting ok with normal mode and 8 gb ram.

but one thing, after bios update my cpu fan is spinning veryfast and making noise, as its having a control unit to adjust speed so now im keeping it at 1250 rpm n its quiet. at full speed it spins at 2480 rpm. i dont know at wht speed it worked with old bios. just want to know 1250 rpm is enough or not?

Re: windows 7 wont boot with 8gb ram (p35- ds4)

Which brand/model of cpu heat-sink and fan are you using?
Check the setting for CPU Smart FAN Control in the PC Health Status section of your bios, the normal setting is Enabled for automatic variable speed control.
For cpu core temperatures, use RealTemp or CoreTemp.
For CPU, System, and other temperatures, use EasyTune 5, HWmonitor and other programs.
Run Prime95 blend test for 8 - 12 hours or longer to ensure that your 8GB setup is really stable.
Click on the last line in my signature for a Prime95 how-to tutorial.
If your room temperatures are about 20 (C), your Prime95 cpu core temperatures should be about 50 (C) or a little bit higher.

Include a Memset screen-shot and click on the "SPD" and ">>" tabs so that we can check the memory settings.

its a Zalman CNPS, dont remember the exact model no: will check once i reach home, also do those Temp check and stress tests and post the result.

Temperature is little high on this side of the planet , and summer is already shining with 42*C outside. but its running ok from last night even with some heavy 3d programs i work with.

The SPD shows tRFC = 51 is the default setting at 800MHz.
With 4x2GB of memory, tRFC = 60 - 66 might be needed for a stable system.

                          So how's things coming along?

You may also need to adjust tRD (Static tRead Value) to 6-7 as 5 might be too tight for 8GB, but leave for now, just thinking out loud.

ok guys, i did a 12 hr prime 95 blend test with everything at normal bios settings and so far no errors and warnings, Temperature was little high peaking 60-65*C and low at 30-35*C. room temprature is around 25-30 and outside is at 43*C these days.

now ill adjust tRFC to 60 and tRD to 6 and do another prime test.
                            will keep u posted.
                            Thanks a lot guys,,

Sounds good, it's nice to hear progress around here :)

If your tRD setting of 5 passed all your tests, no need to raise it as this will lessen performance.
