  • hd5770 or a Motherboard/Memory issue?

Firstly, i apologise for starting a thread but my searches haven't been successful.

Since i built my computer 5 days ago i have been randomly experiencing daily blue screen crashes reporting:

oddly none have been while running benchmarks or games (such as crysis). I have also run memtest and turned up no issues reguarding the ram.

so as the title reads does anyone know if this is the hd5770 or a Motherboard/Memory issue?

    my hardware is

    CPU: Intel core i5 750
    Mobo: gigabyte Gigabye P55-USB3 Rev1
    GPU: saphire HD5770 1GB
    Ram: corsair cmx4gx3m2a1600c9 4gb

    PSU: Raidmax Rx-520(AP-480) 520W

    Cheers

Try to google the different names/strings there, maybe something will come up. This could be a driver issue, but it could be hardware related.

Try running Prime95 or LinX for the CPU and Furmark to test the GPU.

      Have you ran a chkdsk?

Are you setting your own ram voltage?

          Re: hd5770 or a Motherboard/Memory issue?

So since the last crash i have:

-Changed the ram settings off the default values (1.5V...) and onto an auto detected profile (1.65V)

-I have also run Furmark for 6hours with my gpu at 74*C averaging 51 fps and no problems

          - Run prime95 for 6hours without any issues as well.

dont want to say im in the clear yet, but would the old default voltages for the ram have been the issue?

          to answer the other questions:
          - chkdsk shows no issues

-the crashes were always a brief black screen followed by what looked like colourful static. They mostly all occured randomly while the computer was under no real stress, eg at the desktop and browsing the net, only two of them were while in a games main menu.

Nice to see you got it going!

That's why I asked to be sure, many people leave memory voltage on auto and assume it's ok. Normally it is not, unless your memory is rated to run at 1.5 for stock specs, otherwise it's always best to set your own voltage.

Well I hope it stays going for you now, if not let us know.
