  • GA-EP45-DS4 (rev. 1.0) need help with 8gb ram installment

    Hey everyone!
my system is (think this is most info that are needed)

    moderboard: GA-EP45-DS4 rev1.0 (bios 10b)
    graphic: gigabyte 9800gtx 512mb
    Cpu: intel e8400 dualcore
    PSU: hiper 580watt

    ram set 1: 2x Corsair CM2x2048-8500C5D ver1.1
    ram set 2: 2x
    Corsair CM2x2048-8500C5D ver2.1

bios is at standard with no overclocking, and 4gb ram works perfect and stable with all settings i tested,

Now to the problem i cant get the system to boot up with 3 or 4 sticks installed, just beeping. I have tested all sticks in slot 1 and all worked fine, tested to run both sets individualy in dualchannel in all different combos and it all works fine, even with non matched rams it booted up. After some reading i found out that i may need to power up the northbridge voltage, i have tested and taken up the mch core to 1.6v and dram at 2.1v, works with 2 sticks but not with 4sticks, after days of testing i now more or less give up so im asking for some help or links, so i can enable my 8gb, im quite new to bios setting and stuff, so i be very grateful if someone can tell me whats wrong.

    best regards Danne

Wow, 1.6 MCH core is way to much, please don't do that anymore :)

Now, I am not sure if those revisions of sticks will work together or not, you may need to ask the guys at Corsair forums about that. If they say they will not, they will probably allow you to RMA the older kit for you so you can have matching sets if you ask nicely.

For now though I can help you try to get them going together. When you you mention beeps, is this many multiple beeps very fast? If so this is often caused by tRD (Static tRead Value) set to low, so if this is the case, set this to 7-9 with one kit installed and save/reboot then shut down from windows and install the second kit. You may want to make all the changes mentioned below with one kit in, then once done save/apply/reboot to windows then shut down and install the second kit.

Try these settings for stock CPU Speeds

        command rate (cmd)..............2

        *driving strength profiles*
        driving strength...................800

        *Channel A*
Static tread value.................9 have tested with 8 also

        *channel B*

        *Motherboard voltages*
        Mch core.............................1.30v
        Dram...................................2.14v
Rest of the settings is as u suggested above, do u think there may be anything else that i can change and see if it works? or shall i take contact with the rma dude.

Try 2.40B, tRFC 92, driving strength 1066, and MCH 1.32-1.34

You may need to adjust your MCH Ref, info on how this is done is linked in my signature (MCH GTL)

Try .70-.74 with 1.225 Vtt, and if no luck try .78-.84 with 1.225 Vtt. Set properly as mentioned in the above noted link, don't just set without reading the link as you must set it a certain way.
