  • GA-P55M-UD4 Ram Issues.

    GA-P55M-UD4 Motherboard. Current bios f8
    Gigabyte Geforce GTX 470 1280mb GDDR5
    Geil PC3 12800 1600mhz 2GB x 2 DC Kit
    i5-661 3.33ghz
    Windows 7 64bit

On my first boot of the day, within about 5-15min my pc crashes and i have to restart it. The thing is after that it restarts normally and is fine for the rest of the day. I've been reading some threads on this site and think that it may be my ram (cold boot issue).
When i check the Memory Support List for my motherboard its not on there. I've read some reviews on sites and most people comment that the board acts up with non recommended ram.

My concern is if it is safe to use my system like this. I don't mind restarting once but if it is going to end up destroying something else i will look into new ram.

I have'nt done a lot with the system bios in setting the ram as this is all pretty new to me. Any advice on anything i could change in there would be great.

    Re: GA-P55M-UD4 Ram Issues.

try setting your qpi/vtt and dram voltages manually 1.66 for ram and try 1.30000v for your qpi/vtt,also set your ram speed by adjusting your memory multiplier and put in the timings ie 8-8-8-24 yourself according to your ram specs, youll have better stability than if it were left on auto

Ok will give it a go.
Just a question about the timings ie 8-8-8-24. The box i have with the ram saids CL 9-9-9-28. Wasnt sure what this information was until now. Should i still try the 8-8etc or go with the numbers on the kit.

          Re: GA-P55M-UD4 Ram Issues.

May of found the issue here. In the bios i can see the settings as 9-9-9-24 instead of 9-9-9-28.
I cant seem to find a way to change these setting though. I can't seem to select them to be changed. I also cant select any higher than x10 (1333mhz) in the memory multiplier.
Maybe this is the issure with this ram not being on the motherboards recommend list.

            Re: GA-P55M-UD4 Ram Issues.

you need to select manual timings then it will let you input the timings i think it says spd manual then select expert and type them in each box,are you at stock cpu clocks? you may need to overclock(raise bclk) to let you use 1600mhz ram speed

              Re: GA-P55M-UD4 Ram Issues.

              ***Problem Fixed***

Today my computer wasnt just freezing on the first boot but was doing it around 50% of the time, with or without the ram tweaks.

I had this computer built at a computer shop a week ago. The power supply in it was a wideTECH 650w. After a little research i learnt this power supply is a cheap piece of **** and isnt really anywhere near 650w. Having a gtx 470 which needs a min of 550w and decent power from the 12v rail. It also takes two 6pin power connecters and the supply i had only had one and another which was an extension off another cable.

I have now purchased an ikonik vulcan 850w power supply and all is good.

Thanks wazza for your help earlier. Having read though alot of threads here over the last few days you offer great advice.
