    Re: E8400 Overclock to 4.00

seeing you have the EO stepping you should be able to get 4.0ghz out of it. its just some small minor tweaking to get it there.3.82ghz to 4.0ghz. your not gonna notice the small amount you gain from the higher oc. ive ran my E8400 CO at 3.80ghz now for over a year at that speed and have no issues what so ever.. other than braggin rights no need it burning the chip up, unless ya want a new one...lol once again its just my 2cents...

      Re: E8400 Overclock to 4.00

I actually got good preformance boosts all the way up to 4.0Ghz. I ran benchmarks and tests from 3.6Ghz up. It wasn't until I went higher then 4.0Ghz, that the gains became minimal per clock cycle.

I was able to run 4.25Ghz stable with a 2.0D Strap and a vcore of 1.348V Full Load. But considering the minimal gain and the cpu 10C hotter full load then compared to 4.0Ghz. I didn't feel it was worth it.

      Just a heads up. for me, At 3.6Ghz ( 3Dmark06 : 16,800 ) At 4.0Ghz ( 3Dmark06 : 18,000 ) *this is with a GTX285
      I got a GPU score of 12,000+ in Vantage @ 4.0Ghz

4.0Ghz seems to be the sweet spot with this chip. Atleast the E0 revision.

        Re: E8400 Overclock to 4.00

Thanks to everyone who replied. I think im gonna leave it to 3.82 for now and then, when I have more time try to push to 4.0. I think I may have been running vcore too low to hit 4.0 because I didnt try over 1.328. I still got a little headroom til I get 1.365

So thanks to everyone, you have been so helpfull.

You could probably set it to 1.4v in the bios with LLC enable. The vdroop should drop it to around 1.36v to the chip. Id say thats the max to be safe.
Incorrect, just so everyone knows. Intel's rated Max Vcore is 1.45 for these CPU's, see page 17

What you refer to is MAX VID, which means the maximum voltage a CPU will leave the factory using for spec speeds.
