My son built his computer and overclocked it to 4.2. Now my question is this. If load line calibration is on Standard [which disables it] then Prime95 won't run . If it is put on Level 2 Prime95 has no problems. The Gigabyte manual states "Note:Enabling Load-Line Calibration may result in damage to your CPU or reduce the useful life of the CPU." His VCore is 1.3625. I don't understand ,because I just built 2 computers with Gigabyte boards and neither of my manuals have that statement. I know that half the people say they use it and the other half say they don't. He tried disabling it and bumped the VCore up but Prime 95 still wasn't happy. That I couldn't figure out.

all it does is stop vdroop when under load, have you tried lowering cpu voltage with llc on standard??

It is not stable if it is on Standard.

do you have windows 7???? select balanced profile in power saving then it will throttle the cpu right down when idle, llc shouldnt hurt things imo

Yes he does have 7. I will tell him to try that. I don't understand how that will affect stability in Prime95.

            Re: GA-P55A-UD7 with I7-860

you said you were stable on level2???? well keep it on level2 and if you select balanced in win7 power saving it will reduce vcore and cpu multiplier when idle therfore putting less a strain on cpu, under load it will switch to full speed its only at idle

                Re: GA-P55A-UD7 with I7-860

I would suggest using Level 1, then rasing the voltages as need until you get stable. Level 2 actually increases the Vcore under load, which can shoot way higher than you might want. Level 1 will keep it closer to idle voltage instead of increasing it, then you should be able to raise a few ticks at a time in the BIOS until you find the voltage amount you need.

You could guesstimate the amount needed by looking at the full load Vcore amount in CPU-z under load, then set level 1 and adjust Vcore in the BIOS until you get close to that amount under load again.
