Problems with GA-MA78G-UD3H - sometimes doesn't boot

Hi

I have the following problem with my GA-MA78G-UD3H, sometimes it doesn't boot up( all I can hear are fans working). When this happens the dvd-r led lits up(I even changed the PATA dvd for SATA one, no change here). Other than that, the mobo works fine, I get no stuttering in games (which excludes PSU problems) nor any random resets (ram also ok, confirmed by memtest).

Do You have any suggestions what could cause this problems? Also the heat emission from this mobo is quite big, I get a 3-5 degree rise of temperature around the desk(doesn't affect the performance at least but it bothers me;) ) has anyone found a solution? Fans don't help, they just throw it out a bit faster:)

I may be able to help. I do have some questions first. How many months have you had it? When did the problem start? When the problem occurs does it P.O.S.T.? 'POST beep show counted memory and such'? Can you go into Bios and post the results of PC health status? You may want to wait a few minutes for the temps to level off first. Below I have provided a template. Print it. Put your settings on it, and post it here in this forum thread.

If you have had it a while, and heat is an issue the cpu fan and heat sink probably needs a good cleaning. You may want to buy a couple of cans of air and take the computer outside and use them. I believe this is a good place to start.

for clarification - I've had this problem since day one, and it was last july:) vents and radiators are cleared regularly .

as for the POST, it doesn't start while this problem occurs, I get no response from keyboard, and also sometimes soft-off switch also doesn't work, and I have to switch off PSU.

OK I have a couple of settings that you may want to adjust. To start off Load Optimized Defaults save press y and exit. Reboot and go directly to BIOS again.

Lets adjust your DDR voltage down a little.
For clarification When I set my ddr voltage to auto it kicks it up to 1.95v. When I set it to manual the ddr voltage runs a notch above 1.8v. When I do this I must save by pressing the y key and exit. If I don't press the y key it does not fully save it.

After you make these adjustments you can look at your PC Health Status and see if the DDR voltage dropped as instructed. Try these settings and let us know.

I believe vortex360 is suggesting you check to be sure you updated your Bios to F5

After a little more research I noticed this. Below is a pdf of your motherboard manual. Give it a bit to download and check out page 25. Your motherboard System Fan1 header has a speed control. System fan2 header has no speed control. You will want to plug your system fan into System fan1 header. You can plug a 3pin or 4 pin fan into it. Without speed control their is a possibility the fan may run slower, and their is no control over it. I've tried this solution, so far I didn't get any more boot problems, the computer is noisier (as was expected, gotta change 70mm fans to 120mm sometime soon), and I got a significant efficiency boost - tried fallout 3, m&b warband and my wife played her sims 3 - all run about 10-15fps faster. talk about unexpected gains Heat problem prevails, although the core temp. is still around 40-43 celcius.

Have anyone found a good northbridge cooler for this mobo? I'm guessing that it emits the most heat in this case.

I believe the largest gain you will get will be larger fans. Please post your PC Health Status again now showing the changes. Then again when you install larger fans. We would like to see them compared .

I agree, 70MM fans are loud and not very good coolers. Time to get some 120's!

Put one of your 70MM fans over the NB Macgyver style once you get new fans, that will help NB Temps.
