  • GA-EP45_UD3LR and OCZ memory issue

Hi guys, I have a little problem here with a GA-EP45-UD3LR board. The problem is it will not post with 4 dimms occupied with OCZ2FX11502GK memory (ALL are 1gig modules). Now the reason I bought the board is so I could run these modules at their rated speed...Not to be. I have the latest bios F10 and have set the voltage MCH CORE 0+.2 (1.3)...Dram up 0+.3 (2.1v). That allows to post with one dimm occupied. Now here is the problem...If I place all 4 rams in.......The machine will not post, just keeps powering on/off. If I take out slot 3 the machine will post. If I put it back in and remove only slot 2, the machine just keeps powering on off again. So me thinks slot three is dodgy. But if I put one stick only in slot three the machine posts. Even tho I have lowered the spd to 1000 or even 800 with everything else set to auto except the timings 5-5-5-18 @2.1v the machine refuses to post. So here is my question.....Is there a known issue with the memory controller with all 4 dimms occupied or could the board be defective?

I am thinking about RMA but the thing that has thrown me is that the machine will post regardless of what dimm (1 module only) I try......Just not with all 4.....

Can you please provide me a link at OCZ for your exact kit? Thanks

Are you sure this kit is compatible? I mean have you seen anyone else using it anywhere on this board? Just checking

Re: GA-EP45_UD3LR and OCZ memory issue

Thanks for your quick reply Lsdmeasap. I am however unable to provide you with a link to the Ram from the OCZ site as it is no longer listed. The link I did provide was the best I came up with at the time....Sorry.

I have tried your settings, but alas....4 modules just won't cut it doh!

I tried CPU Termination --------- 1.200V* ----- : [Auto] << Set 1.225-1.3<<< every setting to 1.3. @ 1.3 the machine kept beeping fast and I had to put a 1.8v module to even get into the bios.

I have not seen anyone use these modules on this board so I must be the first (nOOb me), but have been able to use them on a ga-p35-dq6 with the divider set at 2.50A from memory and the spd set at 1000mhz and that was using e6700 and was stable @400fsb.

So I will concede that this memory even tho will boot with 3 modules is not compatible with this board running 4.

So lsdmeasap I want to thank you for your time, I will just go and buy a couple of 2gig modules and run those.....Was thinking Corsair 8500 diminator c5 stuff..Any recommendations??

Re: GA-EP45_UD3LR and OCZ memory issue

Ahh well can you pleae provide me a CPU-z SPD image then? The kit may not be fully compatible with this board, which may be why you are having such issues.

1.3 Vtt shouldn't have that effect, tRD (Static tRead Value) can though, but I guess anything is possible.

Try this, try the above again but this time set your MCH Ref. To do this, set Vtt to 1.20, then adjust MCH Ref to .72, then raise Vtt back to what you want to try (maybe 1.225-1.25) and try again. Do this several times the same way, trying .70-.84 MCH Ref) with Vtt at 1.20 when changing MCH Ref.

It may not be fully compatible, the UD3LR is a fairly budget based board so this may have something to do with that, and why your DQ6 worked fine.

Without anyone saying I am biased all I can say is I suggest brands in my sig :)

Re: GA-EP45_UD3LR and OCZ memory issue

So would that work with 4 sticks, and maybe less FSB? I mean the 3.33D multi itself or possibly 2.66D?

Re: GA-EP45_UD3LR and OCZ memory issue

Right I re-read your previous post and tried those settings you recommended and still wont boot with 4 in....I am starting to think I might go back and memtest each module just incase one has gone bad (however I doubt it) and I will report back laters on how that went. I'm almost 100% sure the board is not a fault.

Re: GA-EP45_UD3LR and OCZ memory issue

Well even if the memory all passes one by one, it could still just be a slight incompatibility causing it to not work right with all 4 sticks.

I don't think either is bad maybe, just not happy together is all. It happens with all kinds of hardware so always best to look around before you buy so you are sure things work together.

I know this memory is fairly old, so that maybe be part of the problem, Gigabayte was not able to test this kit or similar since none are made now so it just does not fully work with this board is all.

I tried everything I could think of and all you have suggested to no joy....Guess your right about being not compatible..None the less it was a good exercise to go through. Will buy some 2x2 tomorrow and get this board running for the kids!!

lsdmeasap THANKYOU for all your help!! Rob.

Sometimes things just wont work together, not much you can do really unless you want to send this kit directly to Gigabyte, maybe then they would test and create a BIOS for you.

Otherwise I think you are better of going 2x2GB like you mention, sell these on ebay and make your money back to pay for the 2x2GB you buy. These sell for a pretty good amount I think last I noticed them sold on ebay.

Let us know how you get along with new memory if/when you get some.

Memory prices are very high right now, but if you plan to buy now is the time because they are going to go up even more still soon!

Ok I ended up buying some G-SKILL F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK and it is running a treat @1066 2.1v MCH Core at 1.200v with a mild overclock of 3.2Ghz on the CPU (E6850 stock 3.00Ghz). Here is a link to the compatability for this ram on the GA-EP45-UD3LR board.
