  • Need BIOS settings for GA-P55M-UD2 + 8GB RAM for stability (getting freezes)

My CPU is Core i5 750 on the GA-P55M-UD2 and 4 sticks of G.SKILL Ripjaws Series F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL.

I get random lockups in Windows 7 64-bit. Machine becomes totally unresponsive requiring a hard reset. Seems to be completely random as to when it happens.

I've tested the memory with Memtest86+ 4.00 for over 12 hours with no errors.

I'm just trying to run the memory at 1333 with the default timings (9-9-9-24) 1.5v. I have tried slightly increasing the DDR voltage and also the QPI voltage, but neither has prevented the lockups.

What would be the best BIOS settings for this memory to work stable? I get the impression that you need to increase voltages to get 4 sticks to be stable, but I don't want to go too far and casue damage. Could you show me the exact settings for this model motherboard for best stability?

youll need to use 1.66 for dram voltages esp with 8gb,1.66 is considered the norm, what qpi voltages are you using? also set system performance enhance to standard,i would start with 1.35000 qpi v,then see if it still freezes

QPI/VTT is currently set at 1.15 (Default is 1.1).

The dram voltage is currently at 1.5. I have set it to 1.56 before. In this board's BIOS, the 1.66 voltage is the first in the list of allowed voltages that is highlighted in light red, so do you think it's safe to try it, or maybe try 1.6 instead?

its safe to use 1.66 it only uses 1.65 in windows ive had my ram set to 1.66 for over a year now

Yes that is fine, and if you want to run 1600Mhz with 8GB you may even need 1.68-1.7.

          QPI/Vtt may need 1.25-1.45+

Thanks. I set the DRAM voltage to 1.6 and the QPI to 1.25 and I'll see how this goes for a few days. I also increased the mem frequency to 1600. I had been getting pretty consistent freezes in Fallout 3, usually within about 60-90 minutes, with these settings I played for over 3 hours with no freeze. If I get more freezes I'll bump the voltages up slightly higher.
