  • EP45-DS4 continious short beeps at startup

    Hi,

I have a strange problem with my system these days. My system has run flawless for over half a year, but this week, it has had this problem wich is that the system cant boot in the morning (cold) It gives constant short beeps, and reboots continious.
In the manual it says "Power Error"
So yesterday i bought a brand new PSU (XFX 850) but the problem stayed the same.
Then i found out (by 10 hours of testing every component) that if i changed my mem, from CellShock to Corsair i could boot just fine, cause the stupid 1.8v to Dram in the Bios on GigaByte boards, my CellShock cant start at less than 2.1v and prefer 2.2v, and my Corsair can boot with default 1.8v so I can make it into the Bios.
When i have the system up and running, it runs flawless, but then the day after it has the same system, continious booting and short beeps!

Sounds like your other memory is failing, test each stick one by one at defaults with this
Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

If you get errors you probably need to RMA the other memory

Thx for ur quick reply, I see where ur going with that, but they run just fine in various benchmark progs, games etc. and clock very fine too.
I had the idea that maby the cmos Batt. where to blame, cause if the bios give the 2.1v the system starts flawless?

Re: EP45-DS4 continious short beeps at startup

Ahh ok. Well yes if either ram is 2.1V then 1.8V would not work and you would need to set 2.0-2.1V

You may need a new battery if it always clears your settings. Many fast beeps means tRD (Static tRead Value) is set to low as well, so check this too.

          Hi again,
Wow thx for that info, I didnt know that!
Btw. I'm using the EPP profile on the CellShock modules.
I will look into that right away ;-)
          > and can i use the Batt. from another GigaByte board (p35-DQ6) ? I dont have any new around here.

Yeap, you can use any old battery, just be sure it works still though. It should be a CR2032 battery, so it will be fine

I have switched the Batt. now and that one works fine until now, but everest says that the new one is 3.07v and the old was 3.25v they both are a CR2032, why's that?

Re: EP45-DS4 continious short beeps at startup

That is fine, they may just be different voltage batteries is all, or that one just does not hold as good of a charge?

Need some new ones? They are cheap, I know where to get them for $0.48 cents, cheaper if you buy multiple, but that is in the US. Not sure if they ship worldwide, but I could check for you if you want.

Re: EP45-DS4 continious short beeps at startup

Ya even though it showed a higher voltage when the system was running, due to the PSU giving it power, it may have been dying so it could not hold a charge while the system was off.

The other older one was probably just low on charge from not being used like you said. If it works and keeps working then you should be fine, if it starts dying on you too best to buy a new one so you are sure this is not the issue.

Is it still working good now?

                      Hi again,
Yes everything is still working flawless, for the 3. day in a row the system started up as supposed. Today the Batt. shows 3.14v, so still charging i guess ;-)

                        Great to hear!

Ya it may take some time for it to fully hold a charge, or it may not ever get as high as the other one with it being older? Not sure how that should work.

Re: EP45-DS4 continious short beeps at startup

The battery I replaced would keep time and settings as long as the PC was plugged into the outlet. As soon as the power was cut to the PSU the time would come to a standstill. Eventually the settings would go haywire and I went down to the grocery store and bought 2 for $.99 and now I have a spare. It reminds me of getting a new car battery.

Ahh cool to hear you got a new one, yeap sometimes they just wont hold a charge at all if they are failing , but can still work if left plugged in.

I always keep 5 or so on hand myself.
