  • Ep45-ud3p / e8500 /f2-8500l5d help!

Guys, I recently picked up an EP45-UD3P board, E8500 proc, and a 4GB F2-8500CL5D 2x2 kit and have been messing around a bit with overclocking it. Basically I have pretty much reset everything back to defaults as I found myself making way too many changes at a time and just causing myself a big headache. What I am hoping is that with some help from the forum I can get a nice stable OC and pick up some knowledge at the same time.

The goal is I would like to see how far I can go without adding voltage increases. Depending on what I can get to I will re-evaluate. I really would like to get to 4GHz. Guys, I welcome all the help I can get and look forward to replies. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Ep45-ud3p / e8500 /f2-8500l5d help!

The first thing you should do is to perform extended stability testing with your system running at stock speeds.
You want to be sure that your hardware setup is stable at stock speeds before you start overclocking.
You should be able to o/c to 3.80GHz fairly easily with reasonable voltages.

If you have a very good case cooling & fan setup, temperatures shouldn't be an issue if you want to go higher.
As I recall, Anandtech o/c'd an E8500 to 4.50GHz in their EP45-UD3P motherboard review.

Load optimized bios default settings as a starting point.
Apply the recommended settings in this post for your stock settings.
Follow steps 1 - 4 in the middle of the post to provide detailed hardware information and to post your bios settings and the screen-shots.

I suggest that you run the following tests:
    Memtest86+ (6 - 10 passes)
Intel BurnTest (IBT) or LinX (10 loops using 2048MB or the maximum allowed)
Prime95 Blend test, Small FFT and Large FFT (8 - 12 hours or longer for each test)

If you get any errors, post the detailed error message and post your bios settings and the full screen-shot from step #4.

For 4Ghz you will need to increase some voltages for sure.

Are you sure about these two:
                Code:
                Extreme Memory Profile --- (X.M.P.) --- : [Disabled]
                Memory Frequency (Mhz) ---------------- : [Auto] 1066
A screen capture as explained in step 4 of this post will help.

Do you have EasyTune installed? If you do p;eas post a screen capture of it's Tuner -> Advanced -> Voltage tab.
A bit high VID, is 1.3v also the default in BIOS?
What stress test have you ran so far?

I have the latest version installed, but it doesn't seem to want to start. I just get an hour class for a few seconds and then nothing. I may have to try re-installing. I have only run the intel burn test with no errors.

It also looks to me like XMP is possibly enabled, or mnore likely you are not setting your own main timings (Have them on AUTO I mean 577-20)

Yeah XMP is probebly on default auto, the 5-7-7-20 is the result of Performence Enhance Turbo with auto timings, but it also set tRD lower than with Standard..
