  • Weird display artifacts with HD5870

I've got a brand new system that I finished yesterday.

I'm running my HD5870 (GV-R587D5-1GD-B) on my Dell 3007WFP at 2560 x 1600. I get odd display behaviour, with lots of little green pixels throughout the screen, and some odd horizontal lines (see attached screenshot).

This happens at any resolution. I noticed it immediately after I'd loaded the driver for the video card that came with it in the box. Uninstalling (properly) and installing Catalyst 10.2 made no difference. Interestingly, it also shows up in the preview in the catalyst control centre.

I'm running Win7 64-bit on a GA-P55A-UD6 with an i7-860 that is (at this stage) only slightly oc'd. I haven't touched the vid card at all yet.

DXdiag (64-bit) shows no problem other than that the driver is not WHQL - but I d/l the driver from the ati page.

    An ideas??

    thanks,

    Jeff

And that appears to have done the trick! You are, indeed, the man.

      Many thanks,

`its elctro magnetic interferance from intel power saving thats causing the lines, you have win7?? go in control panel/system and security/power options and select the balanced power saving profile,it will do same job as c1e throttle cpu when idle and full power under load but without causing the lines on screen

Re: Weird display artifacts with HD5870

and now it's back. I made the suggested changes to my bios, and checked that power saving mode was set to balanced.

Up 'til today I hadn't run a 3d application, but when I installed BF Bad Company2, it's totally unplayable. Not only are there lots of the green pixels, the display flickers all over the place regardless of resolution.

          Monitor refresh rate??

What is the brand/model # of your monitor?
Are you running your monitor at its native resolution and refresh rate?

Re: Weird display artifacts with HD5870

It's a Dell 3007WFP. I normally run it at 2560x1600 @ 60Hz (which is native). It was doing just fine with my old rig.

With the new one, this issue occurs at all resolutions, however.

I've also set power to high performance, but my little green friends are still here.

Oddly, though, although the menus in BFBC2 are horrible, if I load the game itself (at 2560x1600 and medium), it runs quite well, with the very occasional exception being some black polygons that seem to bleed out from moving characters - but that's only a rare occurrence.

I'm going to try one of my old 8800GTX's from my dead pc, and also a 5850 that I've got at home, but that will have to wait til Monday.

I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help with this.

                regards,

                Jeff

Re: Weird display artifacts with HD5870

Both the 8800GTX and 5850 work perfectly, so it must be an issue with the card...sigh. Back to umart...

                  thanks again for your help.

                  cheers,

                  Jeff
