I have a GA-EP45-UD3P (rev 1.1) with an E8400 and 4Gbs of G.Skill PC2-8000 memory.
There are two main symptoms.
The first is that my rig will pass every stability test I throw at it. Prime95 (8+ hours), Intel Burn test (30 loops at max stress), OCCT, Furmark, Futuremark 3D Mark (05, 06, and Vantage), Memtest and Windows memory test (mdsched.exe). But, once I start playing 3D Games, and it happens in all (Timeshift, Fallout 3, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and FEAR 2 most recently), it crashes out. Not just to the desktop, blue screen of death (sometimes) or just freezes until I hold the power button in and turn the computer off.
It also has a lot of errrors that seem to be hard drive related. I have replaced my back up hard drive twice in the last year, as it has "failed tests". However, my latest one just went in, and the errors are starting already. Often, it will go into Check Disc on startup. ChkDsk reports no errors, and it starts fine. Just today, it crashed out while playing Timeshift. This time it actually blue screened. When it tried to restart, it froze after the initial start up load progress bar (something it will do often). It went into a Chk Disc, and, this time told me that it could not repair the drive as there was not enough space. (I have 110GBs on the partition with my OS, with 47 GBs free) Once I performed a hard shut down and rebooted, it hung twice after the initial load progress bar. Once I cleared the CMOS and reloaded my BIOS settings, it started fine.
I have tried many things to see what the problem is, including other memory, reducing my overclock (CPU and Graphics Card), booting without peripherals hooked up, etc. I could never find anything that "fixed" the problem for more than a short while. Latest effort was to set the BIOS to default. Still froze.
Thoughts?
