    Re: Normal Voltage for E6750

For what it is worth, I got some settings from Mushkin and got the system to boot at the 2.40B setting @ 3.99 FSB. All was well, so I tried FSB 407 and it would not post! I also tried 2.66D at FSB 407 and it would not post. I'll try the latest BIOS FE and if that don't address the problem I'll settle for FSB 435 4-4-4-12 and move on.

      Re: Normal Voltage for E6750

I suggest that you make the following bios changes and see if your system works at 400MHz and higher:
      CPU Reference ----------- 0.755V* ----- : [Auto]
      CPU Reference2 ---------- 0.800V* ----- : [Auto] <--- probably not available with your cpu

      MCH/ICH
      MCH Reference ----------- 0.800V ------- : [Auto]
      MCH/DRAM Ref ------------ 0.900V ------ : [Auto]

      DRAM
      DRAM Termination -------- 0.900V ------- : [Auto]
      Channel A Reference ----- 0.900V ------- : [Auto]
      Channel B Reference ----- 0.900V ------- : [Auto]

Using these AUTO settings is NOT the same as entering the "normal" values that are displayed to the left of the colon in your bios.
These AUTO settings should be stable with overclocks that are less than very high or extreme levels.

tRC is not present in GB BIOS and is sometimes different in EPP, one good reason i see to enable it.
Well manually making changes defeats the purpose of using XMP/EPP, so what's the point of enabling if you effectively disable it by making changes? Seems like a moot point to enable a set table of settings, then don't use them and make your own changes. Best to disable and make those changes you were already making anyway.

tRC is present, just not accessible by you to change manually. If it were not present in the BIOS any EPP set value would be ignored anyway

ProfJim, Made the changes you suggested and got a similar result. The system posted (happy) and then reposted (sad) and then Windows tried to start but said the computer was in need of a repair because of some hardware change (very sad). The only change I could tell was I did not have to clear the CMOS to get back to the BIOS setup. Looks like if I want to use a memory multiplier with this setup I better get a newer processor?! What's another couple hundred at this point. It is the processor that is having all the problems with the BIOS/Memory isn't it? I'm back at FSB 430 4-4-4-12 and going for your suggested FSB 435. Got any suggested Memory settings that I should try at the C4 settings. I suspect that I should DISABLE the Extreme Memory Profile here too? If so do I need to set the Advanced Timing Control and the tRD manually as suggest by Mushkin for C5?

            Re: Normal Voltage for E6750

You can get a nice used 8400 on ebay for 90-110 normally, and sometimes at e-tailers new for 110-120. So don't think you need a few hundred, one would be enough I think.

Yes, these boards were made for 45nm FSB CPU's, they just run so much nicer/smoother.

Yes, manually set the tRD for sure, Mushkin fellas know spot on how things should be set for these boards.

              Re: Normal Voltage for E6750

I wouldn't be too quick to give up just yet on your E6750 cpu.
I really can't say that it is or isn't your cpu that is causing the problems.
You could try a quick memory swap with the identical memory in your Q9550 system to see if this makes any difference.

An E8400 cpu is probably the best bang for your bucks if you want a high overclock. A sub $100 cpu option would be to go with an E6300 - E6500 (R0) cpu that also supports virtualization under win7.

4-4-4-12 at 2.02 volts should be stable up to about 875MHz. Using the 2.00D memory multiplier might be a bit easier to get your system stable, but your memory performance will be slightly lower than when using the 2.00B multiplier with tRD set one step tighter than the D-strap setup.
Try disabling HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability, some have mentioned that this might lead to stability issues.
I would leave the settings from post #92 on AUTO.

Post your new bios settings and full screen-shot after your next test.

              Good luck!

                ProfJm,
There you go. FSB 435, 4-4-4-12, tRD 9 and IBt 10 passes. I set the Advanced Timing Control per MushkinSean's recommdations.
                Code:
                Performance Enhance: Standard
                Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P): Disabled
                (G)MCH Frequency Latch: 333 or 400Mhz
                System Memory Multiplier(SPD): 2.40B or 2.66D
                CAS Latency Time: 5
                tRCD: 5
                tRP: 5
                tRAS: 15

                >Advanced Timing Control
                tRRD: 4(3-5)
                tWTR: 5(2-5)

                tRFC: 60(50-60)
                tRTP: 6(4-6)
                Command Rate(CMD): 2T
                >>>>>> Channel A
                Static tRead Value: 9(7-9)
                tRD Phase(0-3) Adjustment: Auto
                Trd2rd(Different Rank): Auto
                >>>>>> Channel B
                Static tRead Value: 9(7-9)
                tRD Phase(0-3) Adjustment: Auto
                Trd2rd(Different Rank): Auto

                DRAM Voltage: +0.2V to +0.3V (2.0V - 2.1V)
I did try tRD =8 with everthing set to AUTO and the system booted, rebooted and W7 crashed immediately with the BSOD. I have not retried with the above settings but....

What do you think - call it a day or do you have a few more tricks left in the bag?

                  Re: Normal Voltage for E6750

There are several memory tweaks that will give you somewhat better memory performance, but making these changes will require additional extended stress testing. These tweaks can be done after you've settled on your final overclock speeds.

I suggest that your try go get 450MHz stable, using most of your posted settings in the last half of post #92. There's little to be gained performance wise with 5MHz increments.

                  Try the following changes:
                  CPU Host Frequency = 450MHz
System Memory Multiplier = 2.00B and tRD = 9 for both memory channels.
--> If 2.00B fails, try using 2.00D with tRD = 9 (or 10 if needed).
                  Primary memory timings = 5-5-4-12.
CPU Vcore = 1 - 3 steps higher might be needed.
                  MCH Core = 1.28
                  HDD S.M.A.R.T. Capability = DISABLED
CPU Fan Warning = ENABLED <--- recommended, but optional

I did some checking and your E6750 seems to have a 475MHz ceiling, often with Vcore about 1.45 volts. With LLC DISABLED, your cpu vcore at load would be less than 1.40 volts.
Most setups settled on a 3.5 - 3.7GHz setup, and most of these setups were using older motherboard models.

If your issues are with your motherboard or memory, upgrading to an E8400 should help somewhat (higher cpu multiplier and L2 cache size), but you might still be limited to about 435MHz.

                  Good luck!

                    435Mhz for 8400? What?

He will be able to do 450-500 easy with a 8400 and a UD3P. I agree though, E6750/E3075 usually top out at about 3.4-3.6, more often needs excessive voltage and not all can do 3.6 at all.

The OP is having far more trouble with his E6750 compared with my E6550 on my rev: 1.0 EP45-UD3P motherboard, where 1100MHz speeds were easily achieved and I had no problems using the 2.00B and 2.00D multipliers with tighter tRD settings.

The last sentence in post #98 stated that upgrading to an E8400 might not work with higher FSB speeds if his system has motherboard or memory issues.

Use of various Strap/multi combo's often come down more to memory than anything else, some memory just wont do anything near what others will with similar specs.

Ya you are right though, if that board has issues or does not like his memory then the problems would continue most likely.

Sorry for the way that sounded, I read it out of context I guess and it looked like your comment was all alone and said 8400 or UD3P can only do 435. It's the morning, what can ya do?

                          Sleep in a bit longer!
No problem, it sounded like you misunderstood my statement.

The OP and I are using the same memory, and his Q9550 also uses the same Mushkin 1066 memory.
With my E6550, I could boot and run stability tests up to 527MHz, but I never could get my system fully stable with with 495MHz or higher speeds.
                          Most E6550 systems have a maximum o/c at 3.40 - 3.50GHz.

I've got to wonder if buying a new or used E8400 is worth it just to get an additional 15% overclock.
Maybe he would be better off with a low cost i3 or i5 setup with DDR3 memory. Just a thought.

You do also have to keep in mind, no matter what we tell people or how hard we try to help them, we are not there or not trying the hardware ourselves so it could always still be lack of user experience and not the hardware in question. This kind of sucks, cause often you know if the people we help were next door we could get them going within minutes!

Who or what is an OP?! If FSB 450 was my goal I think we got there. Give it enough juice and it will run. Not sure if I what to run at this voltage 24-7 though. Thought you might want to look at the OP's current status. I will go back and try 2.00B with a tRD of 9 just to see if it will run. I don't think you want a blow by blow on what it took to get to this screen dump - wasn't pretty. What do you guys think?

Which voltage are you warry about? All look pretty much decent.
Are the 55c max temps for the IBT run?
If 2.00B works you can try 2.40B for DDR-1080.
