  • EP45-UD3 overclocking

Hi I'm new to overclocking and have finally run Prime successfully for 9 hrs after alot of reading this site and tweaking bios settings.

So a couple of questions if I may.
-have I set anything drastically wrong?
-could I optimize this overclock a bit better?
-should i try to push it further?(maybe try for 4ghz)

    Re: EP45-UD3 overclocking

Settings may or may not work for u..the main difference would be the memory.
You might not want to increase voltages that much either.

Actual performance increase would be about 6-7% over what u are running now not 10% + as the speed increase would suggest.

also u dont see many/any quads running 24/7 at over 500 cpu ref on air so that might be as much as you will get.

If the memory is halfway decent .tho im not sure how good kingston is,and you are going to hold at around 450 cpu ref/1800 fsb u may be able to run it with a 2.4B multiplier .or a 2.0B and tighten up the timings.
Best memory bandwidth i can get is around 9gb/s read 10gb/s write .Chances are u wont get much over 9-10gb/s overall.

1800fsb seems to be a barrier with some memory types.. not so much with the cpu.,
Then again u are already at 2.2v on the memory.. see if it will go any higher easily.

I see u have the f9 bios did u have the f8 before and notice an improvement?(Im still on f8)

      Re: EP45-UD3 overclocking

      Thanks for the reply kick
I had F7 bios before and didnt notice any improvement, the same settings seem to work for both bios's. I use 3dmark as the first test to pass before I move onto prime and the cpu results were the same for that also.

The memory is 1066 and should handle 500fsb although checking your settings for 4ghz, I may need alot more tweaking as it wont boot into windows when I raise the fsb speed any further with these settings. So I might have to be content with a stable 3.6....for now

        Re: EP45-UD3 overclocking

I loaded up the f9 bios..seems no better, then again its no worse.
        So ill leave it.
On the memory. It doesnt really matter if its 1066 memory or not.
See if its 960 mhz memory on your board with a 2 multiplier,ie using 480 cpu ref(1920 fsb)
Where you are now at 450mhz cpu ref, if you can get the 2.4 multiplier to work you may get memory bandwidth in and around 9-10gb/s.
Your cpu performance will be down a little tho
It feels like the best we can do is
either 4 ghz cpu with memory at 1000mhz or 3.8ghz approx cpu with memory on a 2.4 multiplier.

You will have to play around with settings a bit .
f9 bios does give me the option to add .5 to the 8 multiplier ie 8.5 indicated..unfortunately it doesnt work when the os boots up

edit :My settings will not work under testing using the f9 bios IF the .5 multiplier is checked .
In bios this shows an indicated 4.25 Ghz 500x8.5.On bootup tho it shows x8 or 4ghz as normal.testing fails after a couple of min tho in OCCT.Its like the pc is being stressed as if it was running 4.25 while only actually at 4ghz.
putting the max multiplier back to 8 in bios fixes the problem and it runs just as well as with f8 bios.
Perhaps the latest bios can "fool" the chip into running 8.5 somehow but it doesnt seem likely since the multiplier is supposed to be hard locked, either way it would probably need more volts.
Ill play around with it on a slow day to check, right now ill just treat it as a bios bug.
        Yours is the same?
when changing settings I generally run
        1.memtest 15% of memory tested
        2.OCCT for 20-30 min
        3.prime for some hours.
4.Perhaps a little ibt/linpac to see how hot the cpu can go.!

See if your memory will run 980 mhz first and with what timings ,using say a 2:66D multiplier .If it can,you should be gtg towards 3.9-4Ghz.
I mean if I were to loan you my memory theres no reason you couldnt hit 3.9-4,same board, same bios, same cpu ,decent cooler etc etc.
The difference is the memory ,you may have to google it see what settings people run on it what timings are best n all that.
