  • EP45-UD3R Overclocking Question.

i'm a newbie for OC,currently i have my new computer, the problem that what i facing is. after overclocking i can't load into windows. the pc just blue screen. i have google up, that my current processor is a very good oc processor, but i can't even OC it. once OC blue screen come out when logging into windows.

    here is my setup specification:

    E8400 3.0Ghz E0 /Gigabyte EP45 UD3R Rev 1.1,F11bios
    TeamExtreem 2X1gb (4-4-4-10) 2.0V~2.2V
    XFX 8800GTS 512mb
    Silverstone Strider 560watt power supply

and here is my configuration in bios: but it fails to logging windows , only successful logging windows when i set all to default.
can you guys help me check weather is my bios configuration or my motherboard or either processor are faulty???

    Re: EP45-UD3R Overclocking Question.

You may need a bit more, 1.22-1.26v CPU Termination, CPU PLL 1.57 may help too.
MCH Core a bit too high, probably not more than 1.26v is needed, try 1.2-1.26v.
MCH Reference and possibly CPU Reference may need to be tweaked, how to in http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/how-...asytune-29746/, try 1-3 notches below default.

Please follow steps 1-4 in this post to provide some additional information.

THANK YOU CHIKE,i have try you advise (try 1-3 notches below default)
now i can load in windows and playing games successful with these setting, but it will fails orthos after 1hours. can you teach me any more tweak will make this PC stable?

quite confuse on the link that you show me, and this EP45UD3R is quite funny, you can't even OC your processor without tunning the mch core lower one notch from the default (0.760), and one more question. do i need to change the CPU Reference when OC?

        Re: EP45-UD3R Overclocking Question.

If you are confused with setting reference voltages, this post has a simplified description.
The same procedure is also used when changing Cpu Reference volt settings.

MCH Core might still be too high, as your setup is using 2x1GB of memory. Less than 1.20 volts might work better.

Please provide the screen-shots from step 4 in this post.

Your memory settings are less than optimal. At 450MHz, tRD = 9 should be stable.
tRD = 8 using the 2.00B memory multiplier will give even better performance.

You might have better stability with LLC disabled and raising CPU Vcore several steps higher.

To make it simple, the procedure for changing MCH/CPU Reference is:
Set VTT(CPU Termination) to default (1.2v)
Change the reference to it's desired value
Set VTT back to where it was (1.26v for your current settings).

Listing the reference value for default VTT in addition to the final value that is set in BIOS will make things clearer.
          For Example:
          MCH Reference ----------- 0.760V -------- : [0.745] (0.700 @ 1.2 VTT)

Your MCH seems to be set 3 steps below default, and CPU 2 steps below.

The answer is in your question, you are the only one that can find out if there is a need for it or not. Without lab equipment to monitor the results we are a bit in the dark so it is up to trial and error.
If you do not intend to change it leave it on auto.

Basically the reference values control the integrity of data exchanged between the CPU and MCH, too high or too low settings may lead to data corruption. The exact settings may change with different FSB frequencies VTT and Vcore.

One or two steps up PLL also help stability in high CPU frequencies, try to keep it below 1.6v.

When Prime95 fail, the FFT size may indicate which settings are in question.

              Re: EP45-UD3R Overclocking Question.

Your screen-shot doesn't include CoreTemp, which would show us the stock cpu VID for your processor.
Including the ">>" and SPD panels in Memset provides additional useful information.
The Cpu-z SPD window also shows helpful information.
In the future, it is helpful to display the Orthos window after an error has occurred.

Note that EasyTune show the reference valuies for VTT 1.2v
CPU Reference 0.730 (? steps below default)
MCH Reference 0.700 (3 steps below default)

BTW in the template you listed 0.76 for CPU Reference which does not add up, should more like 0.765 or 0.766.

                  Re: EP45-UD3R Overclocking Question.

8K FFT error indicates a problem with cpu settings, not memory problems.
Note that EasyTune show the reference valuies for VTT 1.2v
Power on value is 1.20, but the applied value is 1.26 volts (same as in his bios settings).

I was pointing the fact that EasyTune shows the reference values for default VTT regardless of it's target value.

BTW in the template you listed 0.76 for CPU Reference which does not add up, should more like 0.765 or 0.766.
sorry, that template that i post is before i follow your advise from post number 5 (Your MCH seems to be set 3 steps below default, and CPU 2 steps below.)

This was a comment on your posted settings not my advise.

As profJim says 8K FFT point more towards CPU settings not memory.
Set CPU Reference auto for now, CPL PLL one step up (1.55 or 1.57), and run small FFT torture for an hour or two before running blend.
Also a 5-10 runs of IBT(IntelBurnTest) at max stress level may indicate if there's a need for more Vcore. Core temps are going to be high, no worries up to 75c though.
GFlops estimate should be ~24 give or take 0.5.

                            i should reply like this:

MCH Reference 0.700 (3 steps below default)
