  • INF Intel update issues

Hi all, i was having lock up issues about a month ago. A clean install fixed the lockups but today i noticed something. In device manager there are 9 copies of Interrupt Controller that say they don't have a driver installed for them. The INF Intel update from Gigabytes site got rid of this but the lockups have returned! I know for certain the cause is the update because even at stock clocks the lock up happens. On top of that i did a sys restore to the point just before the update and the lockups have vanished (the 9 interrupt controllers are back though). So how can i install this update and not get the lockups? My system:

    Ga x58a ud5 mobo, i7 [email protected], 6GB Corsair Xms3, Nvidia GTX 260, Haf 932.

    Thanks in advanced!!!

UPDATE: Tried manually installing the parts of the driver through each instance of the controllers in device manager, still locks up.

    Re: INF Intel update issues

Did you try the newest drivers from the Intel website? The drivers linked on the Gigabyte site are often outdated.

      Re: INF Intel update issues

Also I might add that when you do an update with the intel chipset utility you need to go into device manager and perform the update with the "have disk installation method". The instructions are in this link here -->>

You do not say what version of windows you have installed. you do not give much info on your system specs??? Why???
try the have disk method and I might add I have always found that format and reinstalls sometimes help. I like to use slipstreamed versions of windows to speed up install and add any Service packs in to the mix. What size of hard drive do you have installed?? Have you done any registry editing??

          Re: INF Intel update issues

K, i installed the newest INF update, for some reason the files would not extract though. I ran the exe through the cmd with the -a -a -p<myfolder> parameters like the site said. The installer ran and said it extracted the files successfully but i looked in the folder and it was empty, The path i used was C:/New Folder so there is no way it extracted the files somewhere else... I still tried the have disk install method and it couldn't find the drivers in the folder so i did it using the normal installer (I tried like three times extracting and the same thing happened every time). Ill post back if the lockups return...

Thanks again, btw no registry editing other than some things to speed up menus and stuff like that, but there has not been any issues caused by that so far.

well that was fast, yup those damn lockups are back again in all their annoying glory...Tried the extracting with the cmd from sysWOW64 same thing. it says it was extracted successfully but there is never anything where i tell it to extract to. I also tried a few different directories too just in case.

                  Re: INF Intel update issues

I have 7-Zip installed on my w2k system.
The following procedure extracted the INF files.
                  1. I created a folder called INF-1025.
                  2. infinst911autol.exe was downloaded to this directory.
                  3. right click on the downloaded file.
                  4. select "extract here."
                  5. press ENTER

I just noticed that my c:\Program Files\Intel\Infinst folder now has a new sub-folder Inf which now has two sub-folders, ALL and WIN7. I think that these two sub-folders were created when I initially ran the 1025 INF install program using the -a and -p flags, where the p flag had a different directory specified.

                    Re: INF Intel update issues

Was this the actual exe or the 7ZIP archive? I can open 7zips with WIN RAR but when i right click on infinst911autol.exe there is not an extract here option, i have done this with the 7-Zip archive version of the INF update before though.

UPDATE: Ive been looking around on google and apparently a realtek audio driver can cause all kinds of random lockups on x58 boards. I uninstalled this driver and ive been working on my pc with like 3 3ds maxes and 2 photoshops open and have prime 95 running too and its hasnt crashed...yet Keeping my fingers crossed! Im downloading the newest drivers as we speak but my internet connection is crap so it will pry be a while.

                      Re: INF Intel update issues

I used 7-Zip on the downloaded infinst911autol.exe file.
I didn't find a ZIP file version for the 1025 INF file.
7-Zip also lets me open the INF exe file as if it was a standard ZIP file, where I can then extract the EXE file contents to any folder.

With 7-Zip, right clicking on an EXE file lets me perform many ZIP file options, including extract files, extract HERE, and testing file integrity.

ok ill download it and see how it goes. Btw the piece of shat just decided to lock up while i was in the shower so it cant be the audio driver issue.

Also when ever the pc locks up, i restart it with the restart button and it just does a loop of restarts. I have to turn it off for a few seconds with the psu switch and then clear the CMOS for it to post? I have the F3 bios which are the newest for this board too so i donno what that is about.

                          Re: INF Intel update issues

Ok I installed 7 zip, extracted the files, and used the "Have Disk" method in device manager. It says windows has determined that the drivers are already up to date even though they are 1005 not 1025... Which is very odd considering the disk that came with my mobo had the 1020 drivers on it? The normal installer says basically the same thing when i run it. Anny suggestions?

UPDATE: Im installing with the -OVERALL parameter to force installation, hopefully that will work... And nope they are still 9.1.0.1005 :(

You might want to give this a try, see the last line:

                              from NGOHQ.com

Intel Corporation has released a new build of the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility providing driver support for their motherboard chipsets for Windows operating systems. The Intel Chipset Device Software installs Windows INF files to the target system. These files outline to the operating system how to configure the Intel chipset function properly:

                              - Core PCI and ISAPNP Services
                              - PCIe Support
                              - IDE/ATA33/ATA66/ATA100 Storage Support
                              - SATA Storage Support
                              - USB Support
                              - Identification of Intel Chipset Components in the Device Manager

This software can be installed in three modes: Interactive, Silent and Unattended Preload. Interactive Mode requires user input during installation; Silent Mode and Unattended Preload do not. This software also offers a set of command line flags, which provide additional installation choices.
If you're updating, don't forget to add the -OVERALL -OVERIDE command-line.
