  • Advise memory for GA-X58A-UD7

I'm looking for good compatible memory (3x2GB) for a GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard. My goal is an overclock of 4Ghz and higher (I hope).

Would it be better to buy a memory kit with high or low MHz and timings so that it would be easier to achieve my overclocking goal?

for 4ghz you would ideally want 2000mhz ram so you will be able to use it at its full speed,i have no problems with my ocz reaper at 1800mhz,g-skill trident do 2000mhz kits also

      Is a 2000MHz cl8/9 kit better than a 1600MHz cl6/7 kit?

yes but its more expensive, and youll need to overclock cpu to use full speed,1800 or 1866 kits are good and slightly cheaper

You can run 4ghz with1600Mhz memory. No need to spend a premium on 2000Mhz memory.

I have Asus P6X58-d premium @4.1 Ghz and 1680Mhz memory.

Your CPU will top out before your 1600Mhz memory will.

Only get 2000Mhz memory if you're going for like 4.4Ghz + and you have water cooling otherwise waste of money.

thats the point of overclocking,to buy as cheaply as you can and tweak to achieve as much bang for buck as possible, sometimes the most expensive doesnt always mean the best performance, dont forget you can run in dual channel 8gb of dual channel 1600mhz is just as good if not better than 6gb 1600mhz of tri channel memory

                  Re: Advise memory for GA-X58A-UD7

There's very little benefit from fast RAM in real life applications, and slow RAM won't hold your overclocking back like it does on 775 where the RAM speed must be equal or greater than the FSB. So there's not much reason to get very expensice memory, you're usually better of to spend mroe money on the video card.

This is a great article that looks at RAM performance scaling:
