EP45UD3P Reboot Loop! Help!

I have a Gigabyte EP45UD3P motherboard brand new just hooked it up and for some reason when I boot up its turns on for a second fans starts up and it restarts.

I have tried clearing the CMOS, resetting everything, disconnecting to the bare min, but nothing seems to help.

This is my second board that does this. The first one I RMA'ed.

Gigabyte is really pissing me off!

Follow the recommended settings in this post, but only use one memory module in slot 1 until your boot loop problem is behind you.

Once you're able to run Memtest86+ for at least 8 - 12 full passes, preferably with both memory modules installed, follow steps 1 - 4 in the post to provide detailed hardware and bios information. The screen-shots will obviously have to wait until you can boot into windows.

Don't get mad, get even.... by getting your mobo to be completely submissive!

**edit** In addition to using only one memory module, try booting with a minimal hardware setup, ps/2 keyboard, video card, keyboard. Disconnect any hard drives, cd/dvd drives, usb devices, etc.

If you're still not making progress, add the detailed hardware list to your forum signature, including the mobo version, link to your memory's specifications, etc.

You might need to remove your mobo from the computer case and test with the mobo resting on a book or box beside your case.

But if I could get to that point, I think I could manage and would love to use your recommendations.

But unfortunately I cannot even get the machine to post.

Yes I agree getting even is way better than getting mad, but I would still like to skull **** gigabyte right now!

Am I the only one with this problem?

As it is the second board it raise the suspicion it's not the board, or not the board by itself, though this possibility is not excluded.

Minimal boot as profJim suggested, replace the one ram stick, try a different memory brand/model. Then the video card PSU and CPU.
Memory and video cards incompatibilities are not too rare, bad CPU s are not very common, I had seen a few on this board.

The first board I had was fine, although it started to have a slow boot one day and the next it went into a reboot loop then no boot at all, So I RMA'ed it.

Now if the CPU were bad when I put it into my other machines it would not work correct? But in fact it boots up just fine and works.

If I were too try and boot without memory then at post it would give me a no memory beep code right? Whenever I take the memory out of my other machines, I do in fact get a beep code not a reboot loop.

I have tried everything my friend.....for some reason cannot get this board to post.

On some occasions, a mobo has successfully booted after going through 5 - 10 boot loops. If your system boots, immediately go info the bios, load optimized bios defaults, save settings and exit, and then re-boot into the bios and make any required memory or other changes.

The following steps might get your system going:
1) With your computer off, turn off the power to the psu by using the psu's on/off switch.
2) Unplug the external power cord from the psu.
3) Press and hold the computer case's on/off switch for 10 seconds.
4) Leave your computer in this state for up to 15 minutes or longer.
5) Hook everything back up and turn on your computer.
You might have to perform these steps several times.

Sometimes there can be hardware compatibility issues, such as a graphics card, memory, or even your power supply.
The fact that your first mobo had the same problem tells me that there is a problem other than your second mobo being defective. It's highly unlikely that you would get two defective mobos in a row.

You will need to test your system with different memory, graphics card, psu, or possibly a different cpu or keyboard to determine which component is causing the problem.
It's possible that you have bent cpu pins. If you remove your cpu or heatsink, check the cpu socket for bent pins and verify that the electrical contact pads on your cpu all have contact marks.

You can try clearing your CMOS following the procedures in BIOS Flashing - A "How To ~ Qflash Guide". You might need to remove your cmos battery and jumper the CLR_CMOS pins on the mobo for at least 20 minutes, and possibly overnight.

I suggest that you test with a single quality memory module, either 667 or 800MHz.
See if you can borrow a low to mid-range video card, even an older PCI card.
It's possible that your cpu is defective (unlikely, but it sometimes happens), or that your cpu or heatsink isn't properly seated.

You should have a mobo speaker hooked up to your mobo, but this probably won't help you right now because you're not not getting far enough into the POST process for the mobo to generate any error beep codes.

Without knowing anything about your specific hardware setup, it's hard to make additional suggestions.

Don't send praise, send money!
It looks like your problems are due to hardware failure other than your mobo.

My EP45 suddenly shut off, even though I'm using a decent UPS setup.
My board refused to power up, no spinning fans or LED lights.
I tested with:
2 additional power supplies, all 3 units work fine with my backup system
3 different cpu's
6 different memory modules, all 800MHz Crucial Ballistix
2 Mushkin 1066 memory modules
Nothing helped.

I replaced my EP45 mobo with my backup P35-DS3L and re-installed all the (suspect) hardware; P35 lives , EP45 = rest in peace.
There are no signs of physical or electrical damage to the EP45.
