  • G31M-ES2L + PC-8500 issues

    Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting my RAM to clock at 1066mhz (PC-8500). It shows up as 800mhz (PC-6400). I'm not sure exactly what settings to tweak, and to what, to resolve this problem.

I'm familiar with the BIOS so I'm not an entirely lost cause :)

    Specs are:

    -GIGABYTE G31M-ES2L rev. 1.0
    -2x2GB DDR2 Corsair XMS2 PC-8500 5-5-5-15
    -Intel E7500 Core 2 Duo @ 2.93ghz

    Links to manufacturer's pages are:
    RAM | CPU | MoBo

Any and all help would be very much appreciated!

System Memory multiplier 4 (4.00A if you have it, otherwise try both you have) and DDR2 OverVoltage +0.3 (for 2.1v, normal is 1.8v).
It doesn't seem you have any others.
Could you post a screen capture of MemSet main (click >>) and SPD(click spd) windows with BIOS optimized defaults applied?
MemSet can be download from http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284762

Sure, here's the screen capture with BIOS set to optimised. The only multiplier options I appear to have are 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0.

      Thanks for the response :)

Memory multiplier 1? That's the 1st time I hear of.
        What is the BIOS version?
Try to press Alt+F1 in main BIOS screen and see if that add any more options in MIT.
With 266FSB a multiplier of 4 is needed for DDR-1066, but for 333FSB 3.2 is needed so I realy don't know what to say.

Oops, don't know what I was meaning before! Multiplier options are 2, 2.5 and 3 (not one :P )

advance options doesn't add any more options to the SPD. BIOS version is f10, if that means anything.

F10 seems to be the latest.
it's still odd because DDR-533 is not even listed on the web page, and that's what you'd get for 266FSB with 2 multiplier.
Send a question to GB support and see what they have to say about it.
I wouldn't worry too much about it because DDR-1066 would not be a lot of improvement over DDR-800 at 266FSB.

Will do, intersting to see if Gigabyte can explain what's going on

                Re: G31M-ES2L + PC-8500 issues

Have you already loaded optimized bios defaults from the main bios screen?
Did you try pressing <ctrl> [Ctrl] + [F1] <f1> from the main bios screen before you entered the M.I.T. section?</f1></ctrl>

                Try these settings:
                CPU Clock Ratio ---------------------- [9X]
CPU Host Clock Control --------------- [Enabled]
                CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ----------- [333] --> 9x333 = 2.997GHz
PCI Express Frequency (Mhz) --------- [100]
                Performance Enhance [Standard]

Then see if you can set:
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) ------- [3.20] --> do you see additional options with the above settings?

                Note:
                DDR2 OverVoltage Control ------------- [+0.3]
FSB OverVoltage Control -------------- [Normal] <--- +0.1 might be needed
CPU Voltage Control -------------------[Normal] <--- this might need to be a bit higher

Keep in mind that running your memory at 800MHz with 4-4-4-12 primary memory timings will be similar to 1066MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings.
