GA-X58X-UD7 questions

Considering this board but something is not clear from the info on the website/manual.

The use of water cooling for the Northbridge appears to be optional, but if one opts to not water cool would I be required to use that big-assed heat pipe passive cooler on the Northbridge, or is it optional, too?

I also have this board. I prefer not to use that silent hybrid pipe for the north bridge. I dont think it would help me cooled the north bridge anyway. Coz it didnt firmly attach to the board.

Although the x58 is already hot enough without it.
