  • EP43-DS3L overclock doesn't take effect

    Hello !

    E7400
    GA EP43-DS3L (F6 bios version)
    2x1 gb Kingston HyperX
    ATI 4850 PowerColor
    Seventeam 420w

So, i've been trying to make this overclock works, but it doesn't take effect in any configuration above 2.8ghz ( E7400 stock ), as you can see below...

Even if i start Prime95 or Everest stability test, it doesn't pass above 2.8ghz...

    Photos from BIOS configuration...

    EIST function is disable.

Any idea what's going on ?

I've also tried to lower the overclock, like 3.15ghz, but it stills don't pass above 2.8.

    Thanks.

This isn't very informative. How did you change the overclock, by lowering FSB or CPU Ratio?

Begin by loading optimized defaults first.
Usually you won't need to change clock drives. leave them at default for now.

Set CPU Ratio to 8.5 with FSB at 333, increase it later when you have the FSB stable.
Don't leave MCH Core on auto, set it manually 1.15-1.2v.
DRAM Voltage may be too low, BIOS default is 1.9v when auto.
    Try memory multiplier, 2.40B.
    Other settings looks ok.

Please post a screen capture as described in step 4 of this post.

Please us a template to post full settings next time, the pictures are not easy to read.

      So, it's working fine now.

      CPU-Z shows exactly 2.83ghz.
Any suggestion for a higher and real overclock ?

I don't want to push it harder, cos i'm using the stock box intel fan, and last days are being too hot over here.

      CPU temperature is about 42c.

PS. Sorry for my last post mate, i'm new here, and I hadn't read the rules.

      Thanks again.

Re: EP43-DS3L overclock doesn't take effect

No need to appologise for anything.

You can try go higher with CPU Ratio and vcore, you probably won't need to change anything else with 333FSB.
I wouldn't set vcore below default.
Memory settings can be optimized when you decide you had enogh CPU overclock.
Watch your core temps with CoreTemp or RealTemp, HWMonitor(CPUID) can monitor CPU and core temps along with other parameters.
You will need to run some stress tests to verify settings are stable. Normally Prime95/Orthos blend torture for 8+ hours. If your temps are in good range while running Prime95/Orthos(65c or less) you can run IBT at max stress level for 5-10 runs, it help to make sure there is enough vcore.
With stock cooling you can probably do 3.16-3.33GHz, maybe more, these R0 stepping chips seems to run pretty cool, but besides the CPU OC you get much better memory performance with the higher FSB.

You can find those programs at http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...30/#post284762

Could you please post the screen captures I've asked in post #2?

Re: EP43-DS3L overclock doesn't take effect

          Chike,

I've decided to leave the CPU in 3.16ghz, because as i said, since last days it has been very hot over here, and CPU easily reaches 65c ++ when set to 3.33ghz.

So, i've runned Prime95 for 8 hours + in last night, the temperature was about 58c at full load, and it becomes stable.

I had just set vcore to 1.25625v (yes... I wasn't saw that vcore was below normal, my mistake).

When it becomes a little bit colder here, I'll try a 3.33ghz overclock.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Re: EP43-DS3L overclock doesn't take effect

58c is CPU or core temperature?

My current OC is for winter time only, at summer I had it only at 3.6GHz, with even higher temps than I have now.

If you post a screen capture of MemSet main(click >>) and SPD(click spd) windows we may be able to help you to optimize memory settings.
