  • Hello... O.C. help

Hey guys... I come to you first before starting my O.C.
This is my first O.C.... So, I kind of need some help...

The most important question for me is...

When I raise the CPU Host Frequency... What voltages should I take care of?

And the second one (important, but not a big deal for me (not planning a big O.C.))...
Whats should be the max temperature for a Core 2 Quad Q9300?
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 (no O.C yet)
    -Corsair DDR3 RAM TW3X4G1333C9DHX (2x2GB)
    -Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR Mobo
    -Corsair 850TX (850W) Power Supply
    -XFX ATI Radeon 5770 (O.C)
    -Cooler Master V8 Heatsink
    -HDD's: 1TB WD Black Caviar
    250GB WD old caviar
    250GB Seagate Barracuda
    -Samsung DVD-RW optical drive
    -Windows 7 Ultimate X64
    -Thermaltake Element G Case

    Start by reading this post.
As for temperatures, 60-65c core temps are probably ok for every day use.

      Perfect... Already read it...

Yes, and also the screen captures requested in that post.
You may want to run Prime95 blend torture for 8+ hours at stock settings to make sure you have a good start point, maybe tweak memory for optimal performance to know what it is capable of, not a must.

          Re: Hello... O.C. help

Well what overclock are you planning? :)
There is less information on the 45 T and ddr3board but there have been a few posts in the last couple of weeks or so.
You still have the same external memory control hub.
          The 9300 is essentialy a Q8300 with 50% more L2 cache .
Id expect you to be able to get 400cpu ref with most items on auto
After that you may have to play around with cpu volt/mch voltage and ram voltage
ddr3 needs a much lower voltage than ddr2.

It might be stating the obvious but DO NOT use anything near the voltages for ram shown in the link below. These are ddr2 ram voltages.

Im just posting the link to give an idea of what the cpu can do and at what voltages ,Q9300 should be inbetween the Q8200 and Q8400 in terms of a reasonable max speed.
Since you have the same cooler, your max temps shouldnt get too high ,say 40 C idle approx on cores 70C ish under full load on a warm day.
Temps with intel burn/ similar will get a bit higher .

          Current Systems:

          Asrock p67 Extreme6.............. Gigabyte EP-45 UD3 ...................... Gigabyte 73 PVM S2
          Intel i5 2500k 4.8ghz................ Intel Q8400 3.8ghz......................... Intel D820 2.8ghz
Zalman 10x cooler.................... Coolermaster V8............................ HP cooler
          8GB Gskill ripjaw ddr3.............. 4GB Gskill PI ddr2.......................... 4GB samsung ddr2
          60GB ssd/500GB HDD .............. WD 1TB hdd.................................... Seagate 160GB hdd
          GTX 460 1GB x2 SLI ................. Msi 9600GT 512MB(died) ........... Onboard gx
          Win7 64 ,750w psu(ocz)............ Win7 64 ,520w psu,seasonic...... Win XP pro ,400w psu

HEC 6A34 case . ....................... Jeantec R2 case............................ Packard Bell case

Ok perfect... I'm gonna start testing with different voltages...
I'm gonna start with your Q8400 setup first and then I'll keep you posted if I get boot loops or something.

              Re: Hello... O.C. help

Ok, I changed EVERYTHING I could but didn't worked... I mess around with the voltages with no luck...

BUT! is there anything like a tutorial for general overclocking? like to know what EVERYTHING means? Cause, I messed around with the voltages without know what I was playing with...
Could be helpful to now what relations or things should I change...

                Re: Hello... O.C. help

Have you set your stock settings manually and tested them to be stable?
Don't try to go for your goal all at one time, post full failed settings and we may be able to comment.

Yeap It is perfectly fine with the custom stock config...

I made a thread a couple of months ago here to people help me out trying to set it up...
